Zoo Pests?

Hello everyone,
I had just got a nice frag (2 Heads) and the zoo had not opened up for a week... They kept getting knocked over, so i thought it was that. So I moved them to a part of the tank where that could not happen. Last night I saw that there was a some kind of really skinny worm and some small white/clear bug messing with them... I moved them to the other side of the tank, I just got home and they are gone... What can I put in the tank to get rid of these pests and what are they? I really like the zoos and would like to get more, but not with these jokers around...HELP:furious:

I have never had this problem before...

might want to give them a fw dip for a min or 2. could have some nudis on it
does that worm look like a shell-less snail?

The skinny worm sounds like it can be bristleworms or fireworm. If it is a bristleworm they usually only mess with dead or near dead tissue. There are so many different types of worms though, can't tell without a picture and even then it may still be hard at times lol.

The bug you mentioned can be many things, but it sounds like either copepods (harmless) or amphipods (big ones have been known to eat zoos' skirts) to me. How small is small? Are they pin sized or 1-2 mm in length? Are they bigger than that with black eyes?

spaghetti worm and why would you buy a frag of 2 polyps? The chances of survival are very low. JMHO
On a frag that size you would know if you had nudis because....there is only two polyps.
Tincture FW dip the dead polyp rock and good luck

look for at least 10-15 polyps minimum and not freshly fragged. If the seller is selling by the polyp only, I would find another seller. good luck!

I would agree with geoxman. Buying one polyp does absolutely have inherent risk, however if you're wanting to spend the big bucks on some fancy pants name coral sometime a single polyp is all you can do. Just understand it's a risk you're taking and your money (big money) is in the survival of that single entity.

Regardless of type of coral, I refuse to sell fresh cut coral (unless it's specifically requested) and wish more did the same.

might be a peanut worm or a spaghetti worm etc

peanut worms I find normally come out at night while spaghetti worms are out all the time.

when buying small frags:

make sure they are aged for 3 week's and you see them fully attached with a hint of growth

The color of the crazy glue is a great indicator as to the age of a frag.

I get more satisfaction out of seeing my 1-3 polyp frags grow into colonies than buying them. Im in this for more than just a pretty tank I like watching things grow and knowing im doing the right thing than skip all that and just buy a colony. I have several colonies. I have a red hornet colony I bought as one polyp and have about 15 now and still growing. I have rastas that I got as 1 polyp and have about 30 now. I bought a 5 polyp frag of RDE's and now have over 400. I cant see myself buying full colonies that defeats the purpose as to why I entered this hobby. I take it as this is the one thing in my house that I control the outcome of. Not my wife my kids the government lol but something that keeps me occupied and relieves me from stress. The doctor said if I dont find something to relieve my stress im on the verge of a heart attack so I entered this great hobby years ago lol.

Not sure if you guys understand what im saying completely but I get a kick out of seeing my zoas and palys pop babies especially the couple i have that barely anyone else has except God in his reef tank (the ocean)

LOL... and when is the last time you saw any "high-end" zoa as a colony for less than a billion dollars?

Jhigga15,
Do you have other Zoa's that are fine?
What "kind" are these?

You said you just got home and they were "gone". The pests or the Zoa were gone?

exactly lol sure you can buy colonies of everyday stuff cheap. Plus you rarely see the higher end stuff sold as colonies. Normally people frag a polyp when its still a baby just to make there money back

I know with a colony of 20-30 candy apple reds you may get it for a little less then $100

and

for 1-2 polyps you may pay $15

imo 1-2 polyps is worth it because with in months it grows into that nice 20-30 polyp colony for only $15

always been my logic especially with small tanks like a 29G I just can't buy dog do do looking colonies.

but how many of those 1-2 polyp frags end up dying in other tanks? I am glad you have had good luck in your smaller tank....Oh I have bought many do do frags/colonies that have turned out spectacular. good luck

everything else seems to be fine... I think those were jut going to die. My other frags have been good so far...

When I have my light on i my room they start to open up. I spot feed them Zooplanktos-M (Brightwell).
Though my Magician did not open up at all yesterday, so I moved it... Lets see what happens today
