Zooplankton?

I ordered this by mistake.

I have 2 O clowns and soft corals. Is this good to feed?

And..How do you feed it?

Thanks

yes , its a natural component of coral reefs. Corals feed on them as well as fish. Its a high protein organism, good for fighting disease and help aid in tissue repair.

IF its live you can put it in anytime. If its dead, I would add it sparinily as it will be metabolized by bacteria causing nitrates and phosphates build up.

Its a good idea to feed at night when corals expand their nemotsysts to feed. They are most active at that time, because zooplankton feed at night.

Good luck

How much and how often would you recommend?

I ordered it from Dr. Fosters so I think it is dead.

Unfortunately, it does not say anything about how much.

I am using a platics syringe that came with some stop-aiptasia.

Have any rough idea, a couple squirts?

I was thinking a few squirts in the tank with the PH's on every other day. That will get all the corals a little right? I am sorry for all the questions but this is my first reef. Everything looks so nice and I want to keep it that way.

Thanks

Hi, I culture zooplancton and two varieties of phytoplancton. Zooplancton in itself contain very little nutrition, they are basically empty bags that you can fill with various nutrients. I feed mine a constant supply of phyto through a combined phyto and zoo reactor from Zinn. You can use dead phyto as well.

You can also give them jeast to keep them alive although I do not recommend that you feed this to your tank as there is very little nutrition in jeast.

How much you feed will offcourse depend on the density of your culture and how much corals etc you have. I take about half a litre every second day for my 400L reef. You will not run the risk of feeding too much if you have a small scale culture.

Cheers

Peter
