Zoos Dying off

My Zoos have been doing fine for quite a while. Recently they started closing up and now they are dying off. Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be going on with them. My chemicals are fine and so are my lights. The only thing that I did recently was us viniger to clean my power heads.

Sorry I am not much help but I am having the same problem. I have a large colony that has been doing great for over 3 years (really well most recently). Now I have a large section of them that are closed and dying. I noticed a fish peck at one of the dying ones but I don't think that is the problem. I haven't added a fish and these fish have no history of pecking at my corals, besides all of the other corals are fine. I think he was just intrigued by the bits of dying polyps.
It seems that I have the same problem. No changes to the tank; water and lights are all fine.

Do a coral dip and see if that helps. I lost a lot of my colonies due to something unkown and the dip seem to stop it in its tracks.

Can you run precise numbers on your chemistry? You should be at about 8.3 or slightly higher alk and 7.9-8.3 ph. I run sg at 1.025 and use a topoff for stability. When in doubt, do a 10% water change and run carbon any time your tank feels 'off.'

I will have to try the dip. All of my numbers are good and I did a water change so hopefully this will help!

I did a water change and dropped in some carbon so let's see what happens.

A while back when mine started to do the same thing, I discovered later on that the alkalinity had crashed due to a contamintated alkalinitly test kit. Upon purchasing a new one(Salifert) I discovered that the new kit was really far off too. You may want to check with another test kit for alkalinity if your using Salifert, because lately they seem to have some issues. Just a thought.

Look at them real close at night with a flashlight for nudibranchs.They will be irritating them while feeding on them causing them to close up.Most Zoas will close up at night,making the nudibranchs more visable.You will have to look hard because they resemble the polyps too!

Well after taking a close look at my zoos at night I found small white spots on them. I have heard of these before. Not really sure what it is but I saw a thread about it once before. I tried the dip and we will see how they turn out.

Take a look at this long thred in the Zoanthid forum.I had this problem,and did nothing but wait it out.Now,6 months later everything is back to normal.

You could possibly have zoo eating nudibrancs. I know that is not the case with my die off but it does sound like a possibility in your case. A six line wrass will take care of that little nuisance.

I don't think that is my case, I have been keeping a close eye on them. The thread that Giantxtc mentioned seems to be all about what my problem is. At least they found a cure for it. I will be picking up some meds for them tonight. Hope it takes care of it! I think that whatever it was has mostly passed by now but some of them are still closed and I still see some white spots so I will treat them just to be sure.
