ZOOS getting overcrowded .. Please help

Hi Guys,
I have a rock with beautiful green Zoo on it.. But this rock also has some Ugly Brown Zoos, Could be Platis (SP?)
I need to get rid of them.
I have tried cutting off the rock, But always come back, They over crowd the Green Zoos.
When a lot of the brown zoo come back, the green ones stay closed up or semi open.

Is there a Permanente way to get rid of the brown zoos.

I would just keep fragging them off till you have a rock with only the type you want on it. Put the others away in another portion of the tank or sell/trade them out of your tank. Then just mount the desired zoa and give it TLC, thats what i did to some fire and ice zoa's i wanted to seperate from some big green and browns i had. Just make sure there are no browns on the piece left. You can do it it just takes patience and a sharp blade. Just be careful and avoid cutting away the good coral tissue away.

You idea is good.. But the rock these ZOOs are on is a made up of little tubes...
So it very diffucult to frag Zoos of this rock..
The Zoo mate is intertwined in the Tubes..

Any other method…

you could stick the zoos you don't want with a syringe filled with kalk...one polyp at a time...if and when they come back hit em again, you'll get em all in no time.

Send the rock to me and I shall send you back your desired zoas on frag plugs! Some of the best zoas and palys in my tank started out brown... then changed to GPE!

Hmm, I ussually get nice colored zoas in and turn them brown in my tank :lol: At least I know there potential! Now time to go do a water change I think....

Seriously a brown zoa can turn awasom under the right conditions if it has the genetic disposition to. I have seriously browned out many zoas with bad lighting in a QT only to have them slowley turn nice again in the main tank.

Try putting the brown zoas on the sand bed. If not change in a few weeks, move them up a bit higher. The patience is key... IME, blues and purples do better in the shade, greens higher up in the tank on a ledge or crack somewhere, and everything else as low as they can go and not be hit by macro, etc. If anything is hitting them it will cause them to close to even beneficial light constantly, which will kill them eventually.
