finally find this great website!
really need help.
i am a new to reef world, and i love SPS.

but the light system bug me for a while.

i like kessil LED, but my friends told me that kessil is not OK for SPS.

so, guys, can you tell me , is that right?

if you use LED for SPS, please give me a model。

Thanks!!

I have two kessil 160's over my 22g nano full of sps. I started off with just one, but added a second 160 when I got the chance. You'll need multiple lights if you're going to keep sps to eliminate the shading. Despite what others may say, you can keep sps with kessil's, but you'll have to plan accordingly (multiple fixtures). If you can do a hybrid kessil/T5 fixture that would cover everything. What size tank?

I have had good growth and color for sps with two Kessil on a 36" tank (65g). I will add t5 in the hope of getting even better result. I've used a light mover to eliminate some of the shadowing problems but I don't think it's necessary. For light hungry Acros I think you need 1.5 to 2 times as many 360we's as Kessil recommend. The 700 model is stronger but less flexible.

Some people keep sps with kessils. If your skill level is good enough many sps MAY do ok with kessils.

However, with a decent t5ho fixture and quality bulbs, you have an sps growing machine with zero learning curve and 100% reliability that light will no longer be a factor to even think about beyond bulb replacement.

Not getting into a debate on which is better. The user experience data is all out there and easy to find. Kessils have a beautiful look to them and make some nice shimmer lines and general light color, but the picturesque acro tanks with big bold colors and dense growth are more dominated by t5ho fixtures than kessils. Basically yes kessils CAN work...but given all other factors the same, t5ho WILL work

I for the most part agree with Bpb.

LED's can be tricky. They're not plug-and-play like T5's are but they will produce the same growth and colors, with more of a pop sometimes. They produce quite less amount of heat than T5's and they don't require bulb changes ever 6-8 months which is recommended for SPS dominated tanks.

I'm currently running two Hydra 26 HD's as I just came from ATI 6x24 T5HO. Now while this was an incredible light and did have success with it, with the Hydra's, I've already noticed a significant amount of SPS frags that are encrusting quite rapidly, while they weren't under my T5.

With LED's it's all about trial and error; finding that "sweet spot". Once you have it, from what I've experienced with Reefbreeder Photon's, once I did I had SPS explode.

Here is a three month difference of my SPS tank. 75 Gallons, 48" long, running two Reefbreeder Photon 24"

+1..
T5.. Removes a big section of the guessing game.
With t5, you know your lighting is not the 'issue'
