Basic Info:

i have a 1 gal cube, well its 8H x 7.5L x 6W
water will be filled to about 7 inches. few pieces of LR, 3-4 hermits and a couple snails. maybe a zebra damsel, but i'm afraid it'll eat the hermits and snails. what do u think?
Flow will prolly be provided by the nano fission skimmer pump (no skimmer though). lighting is a 10watt coralife 50.50 mini compact flourescent. no heater and only house zoos possibly shrooms, but shrooms will take over tank i assume. so just zoos and xenia. water changes will be taking about 15% from my established tank 30gallon and adding to the 1gal tank.

questions:

1. is lighting enough for zoos / xenia?
2. will it be okay during winter season? how will i be able to heat it over night cause the temp will drop to about low-mid 60's prolly.
3. any flaws?

thanks.

How big is your damsel? I don't think a damsel sized for 1 gal. would eat any crabs/ snails.

The lighting should be sufficient for what you plan to keep. I've had stuff grow in the back corners of my tank w/ extremely low light.

you could always run your light @ night to help w/ heat. Also, maintain your room temp at an appropriate level. People can tolerate different levels of cold.

I have had a >1gal pico for about 1.5 years until I upgraded it to a 1.5 gal tank. It was run off a single 9 watt PC bulb. I mainly grew pods in it but there was 3 sexy shrimp and a hermit in there with a few temporary tenants. I do have a 25 watt Finnex heater in there (which I think is great). Theres a small HOB power filter on for circulation (I dont really count on it for filtration). I tried a Fission but it took up way too much space so I took it out.
Thats it. Keep it simple (ie: leave fish out) and it will be hard to mess up. Oh, I rarely do water changes BTW. I go months without doing a change. I probably overfeed, too. The hardest part is keeping the temp down during the summer but its lasted without a crash. Just keep an eye on the evaporation.
Hope this helps.

The 25w Finnex heater has a thermostat on it. Located at the plug, not on the heater itself. I like that because theres less bulk in your tank.

I had a .75 and kept a pair of Sexy shrimp, some shrooms, xenia, and Puerto Rican Goby in it.The damsel will get too big. You'll need to top off daily, keep a bottle of water handy at all times. For heat just blow a house fan towards it for cold run the light.
