1 month growth in my macro algae reactor.

I thought reactors were more for people who don't have enough room in their sump for a fuge or space to have a separate fuge... The reactor is a very efficient use of space but they're harder to clean/prune than a traditional sump fuge.

I turned my fuge area in my sump into a marine pure and siporax chamber.

Mine barely gets warm. I used the same lights as oseymour did. Used a TLF reactor I had been running GFO in. Cleaned it out once already, can't say I've gotten as awesome growth, but it's new and this round of growth is looking better for sure. Here is mine:

What size reactor is that, how big is your set up, and how low does it keep your phosphates?

It is a TLF 150 phosban reactor. It's on my 65 gallon tank, probably 80 gallons in total volume. I can never get measurable phosphates, but that was the case even before running this.

I see some of the reactors using the media sponge and others just the media plate that comes with the reactor. Any benefit or problems with either setup?

Use it just to hold the chaeto from blocking the exit port.

This is still performing like a champ for me. No nitrates and no phosphates, water changes once a month. I use a tiny bit of Kalkwasser in the ATO to keep up on alkalinity and calcium demand.

Here's a video I made about the overall tank. (The link starts at the part about the reactor)

Ive got the bigger aquamaxx that i used to run bio pellets in i will have to give this a try. I also run a DIY ATS but since i have a reactor just setting around it wont hurt to experiment as of now my ATS keeps my system around 5ppm nitrates and .04 phos. Im very curious to see if this might lower it more?

Not sure what happen but before I went to tokyo the reactor was looking dirty. Then when I came back it's looking clean as ever. No idea what happen here as I didn't clean it.

so your saying the bottom dirty pic was before you left to toyko, and the top clean pic is when you came back? am i understanding this correctly?

That's correct. It cleared up and clean itself in its own. No brown smudge or detritus.

Following along too, I have a 60g cube and trying to figure out how to add a fuge with limited space and this might just be a good solution. Has anyone else noticed it producing a decent amount of pods?

I have bad eyes but I see a lot of the bigger amphipods in mine. I'm guess that there is a ton of the smaller ones.

I never had a amphipod colony in my big tank since I started everything with dead rocks and never seeded the tank. so it's far and few but copapods are thriving.
