when I am feeding BBS to my fri, the BBS is never more than 24 hours. I usually harvest the "culture" in te late afternoon/evening, and start another culture that will be harvested 24 hours later (Ok.. Maybe there is a range of 22-26 hours ) I feed the entire culture. (most to my other reef tanks. I feed the fri enough so there is still plenty left over in the fri growout tanks the next day. the next day I siphon out all BBS from the fri tank and give the fri a new batch of BBS (that is only 24 hours or very freshly hatched) I dont decap the BBS. (lowers hatch rate and IMO it also lowers nutritional value (just a guess) ) After 3-4 days of BBS I start to ween them to frozen cyclop-eeze but still offer BBS.
Good luck Dan
Oh,, If I had to guess, I would guess that it is not overfeeding, but lack of hufas (shrug). What I offer to my fri in one day could easily last them 3 days if I didnt siphon out the BBS the next day.
Yes, I was speaking of my onyx and yes, I made generalizations that I shouldnt have. Now that you mention it (and reminded me that there are different types of clowns ), I too have heard/read some fish are more likely to over eat than others and clarkii was one of them.
As for siphoning the older BBS from the fry tank.. I siphon out as much water as I need to get 80-90% of the day old BBS out of the tank. If there are some left over, I dont sweat it. I dont I dont filter the water to re-use it. That water goes into another system somewhere, and I replace it with parent water. I rarely keep more than 1-3 gallons of water in my fry tanks while they are still eating live foods. (depending on how many fry I have and what live food they are eating). When they are weened to frozen is when I start to keep 3-4 gallons of water in their tanks.
Thanks Rod. You're so well known for your onyx I had to ask. I didn't mean to sound snotty, hope I didn't.
That's probably part of my problem. I a running about 7 gallons in a 10 gal tank. Probably too much for 16 fry. Maybe I'll put them in a little acrylic cube I have. Sometimes the heater causes the temp to fluctuate alot in smaller tanks for me.

nope, you didnt, but should have .. I wasnt paying attention close enough and made generalizations that I shouldnt have. I havent had much time for the boards lately, and was on a role that morning... Scrolled through too quickly, then started to share my experiences with my percs without even thinking about your clowns being clarkii, nor really reaing what others have said.. My bad!
