10 gal tank occupants

I have a 10 gal tank next to my bed...yes, a fish freak for sure. It is FW now but I am thinking of changing to SW. I want interesting behavior in occupants. No shy fish. Suggestions?

Anyone ever kept a Chalk basslet? And capt.b, don't lecture me on water changes!

This tank is too small for a pair of clowns and I have clowns in my 75. But you are right...clowns rock.

Ok I've just read of a lot of clowns in 10g tanks, but it would be cramped in time. They are nice though!

You see a lot of them, but Hector and Rainford Gobies are very interesting fish that do just fine in a 10g

I second the rainford goby, but I am also biased as that is what I have in my 10 gal!

I would think one-two small fish, or a goby / shrimp combo would be cool!

My two all time favorite "Nano" fish would to be either a Princess Damsel or a Flaming Prawn Goby. There are a few others that I like such as Neon Gobies, but I like things that are a little out of the ordinary.

I am trying to remember, can't you only have an acrylic tank for them?

I could just be remembering something else on this one.

Plus, I wonder what the recommended size of tank would be for one.

Travis- How are the personalities on the 2 fish you suggested? They both are gorgeous but this is right next to my bed and I like to watch the tank before I go to sleep so I would like to see the inhabitants. Also shy fish aren't going to be comfortable that close to someone.

The Princess Damsel is a Damsel. It will be shy at first, but will eventually come out in to the open almost constantly. Unfortunately, it is one of the most aggressive damsels...period. They are very hard to come by, and they are super expensive for a Damsel. After two years of searching, I finally found one on LiveAquaria.com, but by the time I had the money in the bank to place the order, it was already sold. It was selling for $24.99. That's expensive....for a Damsel

The Flaming Prawn Goby is a shrimp goby, so there will be times that you will see it and times that you won't. Of course it will be shy at first. But, you also get the chance of having a Pistol Shrimp with the goby. Once again, this is an expensive fish for it's relatives....$150! One cool thing about this guy is that it is TINY. Maximum size is 3cm (1.18")

Yeah, unfortunately nix_tank is right though. A mantis shrimp in a glass tank is just an accident waiting to happen. They use blunt force to kill their prey and if they hit a rock touching the glass or if they directly hit the glass, it will crack it. I've seen pictures of it somewhere....

Yes, but a spearer can break their spears against objects such as glass. Regardless, I still wouldn't keep a mantis in a glass tank.
