True I'll give you reliability and ruggedness of the kalishnikovs and sks... They will shoot for ever and never have to be cleaned... but seeing how I'm not in combat regularly... thats not that important to me... sorry to Hijack the thread... but whats the use of a free float hand gaurd with such a short barrel??? I thought the were only use ful on long, hi end sniper type barrells where you wouldn't want the force of the weapon on the rest to bend the barrell slightly??? On a 7.5 barrel, long rage accuraccy isn't really your priority??? By the way do you really have a dragunov??? I love 54r, and that is an impressive looking weaopn... always wanted one... maybe when the flight lessons are done... I'll be able to afford one of those damn things...

Happy reefing and shooting!!!!

Ya i have a russian in 7.62x54r and a romanian copy in 308 as well as an AK47 in 7.62x39, an AK101 in 5.56x45 And an AK74 in 5.45x39, a Russian SKS, a chinese AKS that takes AK mags, and a pre ban chinese SKS. I also have the 4 moisan nagant model 44s, russan, yugo, romanian, and turkish all in 7.62x54r. I'm still looking for a semi auto RPK and a semi auto krinkov to round out the collection. This isn't counting the WWII rifles, sporting rifles, or pistols i own.

As for the free float the standard plastic hand guard is hard to put on and take off due to its short length they tend to break as they take to much force to remove. The free float was a cheaper and easier to find replacement. Plus the addition of weights in it help ballance out the short barrel length.

BTW you can get a brand new romanian dragunov copy from shotgun news for about $600

And the wife thought the aquarium was expensive, till she realized i have spent almost 100large in the last 10 years of collecting :eek1:
