are there any species SIMILAR to a peakock mantis that can live its entire life in a 10 gallon?

Your best bet would be a gonodactylid such as N. wennerae or G chiragra. Something slightly more colorful would include G. smithii or G. ternatensis. Allof these can get to 8-10 cm that is pushing a 10 gal system, but doable with attention to water parameters. The closest species to O. scyllarus would be O. havanensis, O. brevirostris or O. latirostris. None of them get to over 75 mm, they burrow like and have behaviors similar to O. sycllarus. However, they are a bit more "delicate" than the gonodactylids, so you would again have to have a good, stable system that is well run in.
