10 gallon Nano reef build

If you are worried about spending the money on a test kit, you might as well dump out the water from your tank now. That should be the least of your concerns. Get a test kit, you won't know how your cycle is doing til you do. And 4lbs of rock is a little low. I'd get some more.

I'm trying to avoid spending 20+ on test kits for the water, do I have to cave in, or is there another way to be sure?

Just get the test kits. Later on down the road and something looks off on your tank, you'll want to have them so you can diagnose any issues without having to go to the LFS first or guess.

Also, would more live rock be necessary? I've only got about 4lbs, and they recommend about 10lbs. What do you think?

I would get more live rock. Or if you wanted to save some money, get some dry rock and some ammonia and let the tank have a nice long fishless cycle to seed the rock.

Ok I got test strips, bacteria booster, and 2 more large LR

The test strips kinda suck, but are better than nothing... Just a warning before you open them. No offense, but good call on getting more live rock though 👍

Thanks guys. Hopefully it's all good. And the wife wants to get fish once it's golden. Hopefully I can do this as slow as she lets me.

You will have a very difficult time trying to keep an anemone and two clowns in a 10 gallon tank as a novice hobbyist. I would recommend getting a significantly larger tank, and spending more time learning the hobby before committing to caring for those organisms which take a pretty significant amount of experience and effort to keep healthy.

I would recommend some beginner corals first, and a few months of learning before committing to an anemone.

+1
wise.
will save you lots of time, money, and frustration.
u will be much happier and have fun learning
Welcome to the hobby...addiction.

Hey hey! Tank has got more live rock and just introduced the wife's 2 clowns to the tank. We already had about 11lbs of LR and a peppermint shrimp. Everything is looking good. I'll keep updates.
