Ok please help me with this one .

I have a 10 gallon tank i want to have mangroves in.
THIS IS WHAT i was thinking.
5 inch sand bead.Have a small wall maybe 3 -4 pounds live rock aganst one wall takin up 5 inches of the tank. Then an 7 inch sea grass bead. And finaly a 5 inch long retaning wall of live rock with mangrove in it that is leading up to a 3 inch out of water section for fiddler crabs and some dune grass.

The tank is 20 long 10 wide and 10 tall

or maybe instead of the live rock on one side i could have it sete up as...

sea grass 7 inches long 4 deep- small retainer wall 2 inches long - mangoves 5 inches long 6 deep- retainer wall 2 inches - 4 inches long 9 deep above water for dune grass and fidler crabs.

I think I get the idea of what you're depicting here, but a drawing of the total idea might help us out tremendously in giving you advice. :)

It sounds like you're wanting to do a mangrove / marsh grass / seagrass tank, yes? First reaction from me - this is ambitious! A larger tank would make this approach much easier to do, however, you might be able to get away with doing the mangrove and seagrass together.

FWIW, I typically only see one type of plant on the beaches next to seagrass beds. In the temperate zones, that would be the saltmarsh grasses - cordgrass and such. In the subtropical to tropical areas, mangroves take over.

If you're just going to use the rock as retaining walls, I would buy base rock. Maybe a pound or two of live rock at the most.

Have you given any thought to the lighting for this setup? A 96w quad PC setup lit my seagrasses beautifully, though it would need to be raised for the mangroves.

For lighting maybe some t5s but most likely a bank of pc around 100watts 6500k

ambitious yes but rewarding and i am a vary diy hands on person so i should manage

Sory about pics but i dont have any painting abilitys on my computer it is a bair bones kinda thing that is like 10 years old.

10 gallon would be perfect for me because i first want to see if it is posible to have a tank like this .If it works i will set it up again in a 40 breeder.

If i do set it up i would go with a small frog fish do you see any problems with this choice?

hope that works

How are you going to keep the rocks together. What you could do is get a piece of acrylic and drill holes in it to let water in and such and then attack rubble rock to it for asthetics?(SP)

Thanks for the reply rat but because of budgit ummmm..............problems i will for the moment i will not be going ahead with my marine planted.

When i do asemble my planted i was thinking using acrilic or egg crate for the lr backing
