10 gallon SPILL

HELP
i just got home from school and i just sa all of 10 gallon sump is spillt on the floor. pump running dry and so is skimmer. im trying to dry it off with towels i know i have to move the stand to get all the water from under their. what else should i do im going start draning it tank soon so i can move it.. btw the tank is a 26 mixed reef?
 
what happened? did your power go out? if the power went out and the tank didn't have a means to stop the siphon the tank will overflow because the pump will keep running. to stop this from happening again you drill a hole in your return line just above the water level. this way when the power goes out the air that goes through that hole will stop the siphon.
 
no the flex tubing poped out of pvc and pump all of the sump out ahhhhhhhhhhh my MH wont turn on and i just got zaped
 
Dam that sucks! This happend to my 20 gallon last month! Good thing for me was that I was just cycling the tank, but all the salt water was on my carpet :( I am still looking for a new tank at the moment. If you got a friend with tanks I suggest you bring your corals over to them.
 
That sucks. I had a similar thing happen under my 180. It was on laminate wood floor and I just cleaned up what I could with a shop vac and carpet cleaner and put fans all around the stand. I did not move the tank.

Don't worry about the equipment. Plugs dry, unless the ballast got wet, it should be ok in a few days. If you have a power strip, toss it and get a new one.

let the lights dry... if you try to soon you could fry them even if they were fine... clean everything up and let everything dry (anything that is electrical) before plugging back in
 
how long shold i wait befor trying the lights again
also how long can the corals go with only 24 watts of blue lights (sorry i dont even want to try and spell what their relly called
)
 
The coral will be fine for a couple of days. They won't be happy but it should not kill them. I think you are referring to actinic light.

I would make very sure your ballast is completely dry, like put it in front of a fan overnight and try it again tomorrow. If they don't fire then, I would call them fried and start shopping.
 
i would not be surprised if you fried your ballasts. try unplugging the ballast and shaking the water out. if you see a lot of water coming out of it, my bet is it is toast. what brand of ballast do you have? the manufacturer might have a replacement policy or loophole you can use
 
ive been through this many times... in my honest opinion, ditch the ballast and buy a new/used one... is saving $75 worth a house fire? residual salt creep is a great conductor. move the tank/stand, set it on some plastic so no colors leach out of the stand onto the carpet, run a box fan for a day or two until dry.

+1. Even if you are able to get the ballast to fire, if it took on copious amounts of saltwater, there will be considerable corrosion which can ultimately lead to shorts and potential fires down the road.

Also, consider installing a GFCI on the circuit. This will prevent the shocks down the road. Another potential life saver.....
 
Its one of many learning experience in Reefkeeping, Be careful, Be safe and your corals will be fine for a few days, Sorry for the mess. been there done that.

omg i think they relly are toast..
noooo it took me 3 months to save that movey and i had it for a week noooooooooo now what their no was my corals are surving a few months with zero light ahhhhhhh nooooooo
