100 Gallon Cube Tank Build

One thing that was mentioned on the LumenBrite thread was the hot spot. It isn't as dispersed as the LumenArcs. To me that is a problem, to others maybe not a problem. I prefer my light to be evenly spread, not shining down like a beam on a narrow area. Deep narrow tanks can use this, wide shallow tanks it makes little sense to use a LumenBright.

Of course this is just what I have discerned from the reading, your mileage may vary.

Yeah, I am getting ready to buy four of these and if there is something you know that might change my mind I would like to know:)

They focus the light too much. It's almost like a laser beam straight down with little spread. There was a thread on here some place about them...

Tall and narrow tanks they are a fit for as well as in wall tanks. There are things I like about them and things I don't like about them. The issue is trying to mount them in a normal sized canopy or lighting a cube efficiently. (sorry Chelsea, I would have used LumenArcs, my guess is Chad feels the same)

All or part. lol

The par testing done on the LumenBright thread shows it to be a focused beam of light with the majority of the par in a small area, which would be good for penetrating deep tanks but not good for covering a 3' area. The major proponent of the "Bright" had to hack his canopy up to get the lights up high enough to cover his 180. Mounting the bottom of a reflector on the top of your canopy doesn't appeal to me. In wall tanks usually have the extra space above the tank to deal with the height needs of the reflector.

Read the thread, look at the par outputs and compare them to the LumenArc and the difference is striking. The "Brights" are a spotlight and the "Arcs" are a floodlight.

If I had known that lumenarcs were still available when I had bought my lumenbrights I would've gone that way just for the sake of "tradition" and what I'm used to seeing. However, I was under the impression that they were no longer being made, and when I looked at several sites they were out of stock, so I went ahead with the lumenbrights. I hope that I'm not sorry I did :(

They will be fine, you already decided to hang them high and that is what they need to cover. I have the CoralVue made ones and I think they have a better reflective made material than the Pacific Garden ones. Kudo's to Mark for suggesting them to me. I don't know if the CoralVue ones are still available though.

Here's a pic of what my filter floss looked like prior to me rinsing it:

That was after less than 24 hours :eek1:

Ok, here are some pics of my aquascaping. Just remember, I warned you that it was cloudy ;)

The little island of rock in the back corner next to the overflow is going to be where my BTA is stationed.

We'll see how I like the aquascaping once the tank is clear, but I think that it's good other than a few minor changes, such as the position of the small island on the left side by the overflow and the rockwork on the right side by the overflow. I'd like to get that shelf by the overflow positioned a little differently...same with the shelf on the left side in the front. Ignore the live rock, it's not part of my aquascape, it's just there to seed the white stuff :) I'll be sure to take more pics once it clears. I'd also like the add that while the corners next to the overflow look dark in these pics, there is ample light...for whatever reason the camera chose not to pick up on it ;)

Well, I cleaned out the filter floss again...tank doesn't seem any clearer this morning :( If this hobby doesn't teach you anything else, it will definitely teach you patience!

That'll teach you to wash off those rocks Chelsey!
Skimmer, floss, and time... it will happen soon.

Washing these rocks is important, they have a lot of nasties on them and removing the phosphates will help prevent the issue she currently has with her live rock...phosphates. It will clear up soon, mine did and so did everyone else who used these rocks.

Gabe is right, floss, skim and time. The micron filter can reduce the time as well. Patience is on your side. :-)

i think you made the mistake that i did when i first set up my tank. Too much rock too close to the glass.

i ended up using half the rock that i originally put into the tank.

but it is all up to prefernce

i tried to make my rock work look sweet instead of planning out what it will look like when the coral grows.
