100G fish stocking - seeking opinions

In taking some of these suggestions into account, i made some changes to my wish list. I am going to sell my Chromis as i stock up, and then will also monitor as i add and may not end up with all of these. I'll get my most important ones towards the beginning. The ones with asterisk are the larger "featured" fish. The rest are smaller and may not get all of them. But if i do, would the following end result appear to be a good mix of temperament and compatibility?

*Longnose Atlantic Butterflyfish (1)
*Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse (1)
*Fathead Sunburst Anthias (1)
Pajama Cardinal (2)
Purple Firefish (1)
Blue Eye Royal Dottyback (1)
Oscellaris Clown (2)
Chalk Bass (3)
Segmented Sailfin Blenny (1) - or watchman goby
Clown Goby (1)
Neon Goby (1)

You have choosen some nice fish, i personally just do not like the stocking arrangments. I would do something like this:

I would do about 5 different wrasses like a male flame - rhomboids wrasse - a lineatus wrasse - red head solon wrasse - a possum wrasse - and a mystery wrasse would be some good examples. Different shapes and behaviors would look nice with some going through the rock work and some swimming around in the open.

*Fathead Sunburst Anthias (2-3) (I would do either of the following- Pseudanthias ventralis - pseudanthias hawaiiensis - Odontanthias borbonius*)
3 of any of those i think would be nice. and i think the pseudanthias would be alot more active.

blue spine cardinal (3)
Pajama Cardinal (3)
(Would look nice together IMO with the different body shapes)

blue dot or pearly jawfish (1-2)
geometric pygmy hawk (1)
Purple Firefish (3)
Scissortail or zebra dartfish (2-3) or none at all
Springeri dottyback or splendid dottyback (1)
Oscellaris Clown (2) (personally i would do some fancier clowns.
Chalk Bass (3)

Clown Goby (1-3)(3 different colors)
court jester goby (1)
Hectors goby (1)
Catalina Goby (1)
Black Barred Convict Goby (1-2)
Green banded goby (1-2)
Yasha shrimp goby (1)
Yellow Priolepis Goby (1-2)
I think a nice assortment of gobies would look cool.

This is just a few things that i would consider stocking. A nice assortment of smaller fish might be more appealing with the different swimming ranges and colors.

Am I understocked then? 15-17 fish in a 100 gallon seems like WAY too many for me, especially if it is only 3 feet long. I keep 10 fish in my 100 gallon and it is a super busy tank. The two dwarf angels spar sometimes, but it is a very peaceful tank. Here is my stocking list, and my tank is 5 feet long:

Ocellaris clown pair
Clown goby pair
Melanurus wrasse
Rubyhead fairy wrasse
Yellow tang
Flame angel
Coral beauty angel
Kupang damsel

I am considering adding either a midas or tailspot blenny to replace the bicolor blenny that I had to remove. It was eating my frogspawn!

Good luck with your tank! ;)

I would suggest:

Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse (1)
Pajama Cardinal (2)
Purple Firefish (1)
Ocellaris Clown (2)
Chalk Bass (3)
Watchman goby (1) - add a pistol shrimp for him! (not if the tank is in your bedroom, lol)
Clown Goby (1)
Neon Goby (1)

That looks perfect to me!

you have 3 larger fish, but if you took out those angels and the tang, there would be room for other smaller ones. The list i posted is alot of fish, myabe 5-6 of those come off but most of those should do good in the tank together. With a 3ft tank you cant have any of the larger active fish, so smaller fish is better.

Also i personally do not like the watchman gobies, they are a little plain to me and they can get aggressive. I prefer the yasha goby as i think they have a cool pattern and colors. Also if you plan to put corals on the sand bed he will most likely cover it with sand. and once hes in the tank he will be a pain to get out.

Thanks for the listing... i will look into some of those... but you think the Butterfly fish wont do well in the 3ft?

Kinda curious, what do you mean about the watchman/piston shrimp? remember, newbie here... ;)

I think it would do fine, but do you want too give up multiple other small fish for this one larger one? There are plenty of other fish that you could keep instead like a dwarf angel if its a fowlr or some nice wrasses

I see your point. Looking at some wrasses. It's fowlr for now, but will be adding corals in time.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet on any purchases, but think i am going to go with smaller fish to get more variety. Something like this:

Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse (1)
Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse (2)
Pajama Cardinal (2)
Clown Goby (1)
Yellow Prawn Goby w/ Piston Shrimp (1)
Orchid Dottyback (1)
Chalk Bass (3)
Neon Goby (1)
Oscellaris Clown (2)

Looks like a good list! Maybe throw in a flame angel or something that swims between the rockwork. You have a bit more fish room IMO since you did mostly small fish that max out at around 2-3"

Cool. I figure i will get this batch in there over the next 3-6 months, see how the tank does... then go from there and pick some 'special' ones if i have headroom.

About the flame angel (or any similar dwarf angels), is that reef safe and compatible with my list? While i have no corals now, i plan to slowly start bringing some in over time... I believe they are rated semi-aggressive at most websites, but going in last would probably make that ok.

They would be fine with your current stocking, but might nip at corals. You could try genicanthus angels which are for sure reef safe but i dont know how those would work out in a 4ft tank

Its a 3ft tank (it is more of a square, 30" front to back)... so likely would shy away...
thanks for all the info!!
