100L Stocking

Hi guys,

I have plans to move from my 50L cube to a 100L long in the next week or so. I currently have a Mandarin, a Yellow Clown Goby, and a Priolepis Nocturnus.

I'd like a pair or Banggai Cardinals when I upgrade. Would that put me at maximum stocking or would there be room for a Clown too? Obviously looking at the Percula or Occelaris as they stay smaller.

So to confirm, in 100L I can keep two gobies, a mandarin (jar cultured pods and also taking frozen garlic brine), two Bengal cardinals, and a pair of perc. or occ. Clowns?

Awesome :D

Will I have to keep eye on clown aggression in this sized tank? Obviously they'll go in last

Yes. Your biggest challenge will be keeping the mandy well fed.

He is on the skinny side at the moment but takes the frozen brine and I see him chomping pods on the rock. Fairly certain he's getting fatter. I'm thinking about putting him in a hang on 2L box to get him fat on garlic brine without anyone else to compete with. He seems to know if he comes up the back of the wavemaker when it goes off there's a chance the food is coming. I tend to throw some food into the tank for the gobies and drop 1/4 cube behind the wavemaker, mandarin chomps maybe half and then hoovers the substrate later

Once it's available again, try nutramar ova as a supplemental food. IME; larger, established mandarins will often swim right into the water column to take down mysis, live blackworms. Some have reported success feeding .5mm pellets, but that hasn't been the case for me.

When is it / isn't it available?

And I'm hoping he gets nice and fat so he can learn to compete for the food in the water column - he was swimming higher when first added and chomped mid-water but doesn't bother so much now

instead of cardinals, should you wish, a tailspot blenny and a royal gramma would give you activity and color for the same adult mass. Plus be compatible. But no more than that. Your US equivalent is a hair over 25 gallons.

I wouldn't keep a mandarin in a 100 litre,that's only around 25 gallons.They really need a 350 litre+ established tank to thrive

2 clownfish
1 Cardinal
And your existing fish bar the mandarin

The above is what I would recommend,if you have a good decent skimmer.

I've read that Mysis aren't particularly nutritious as a staple food, though I could be wrong? He eats garlic enriched brine happily though

Mysis shrimp aren't very nutritious TBQH.He will get SOME nourishment from then brine shrimp, but not as a staple food.It will need a colony of Copepods and amphipods.

Just because I don't like open ended threads I'll close out with this:

I have him feeding happily on frozen Cyclops now. Basically freshwater copepods from what I've found from a quick google search. I also have a pile of rubble in a hang on Marina breeding box (air driven inlet, overflow return) and have added a load of pods to that to up the tank's pod count. Mandarin seems to be gaining weight quite happily.

+1.

All fish eat pods. Just about anything you add to 100L is going to compete with the mandarin for pods. A blenny is a great choice because it's peaceful & a herbivore.
