1073.05 new set up noisy?

I have a brand new 1073.05 that I installed last night and it's generating some faint noise (like lawn mower from a distance). Would this eventually go away as the pump breaks in?

I have a 1073.02 that was generating some noise but went away after a day or so.

Is it normal for a new 1073.05 to generate some noise at the beginning?

The pumps tend to have some air trapped in them and after a few days the noise from the air will be eliminated. The 1073.050 will be louder than a 1073.020 because of the larger impeller and stronger impeller magnet, but likely quieter than it is now.

That is too loud, I would open the pump, I suspect a bushing is not fully inserted. The impeller is very similar to your 1073.020, impeller and shaft are one and spin in ceramic/silicon bushings. One of these bushing is likely loose and not fully seated in the impeller cover or down in the motor and they just need to be pushed in. This is not too unusual as in shipping the impeller jostles back and forth and can unseat them.

So I opened the pumped today and inspected the impeller/shaft and bushing and they seem to look ok. I reseated the impeller and ran the pump but unfortunately I’m still getting the same noise level. Any other suggestions?

Make sure the bushings are fully seated, the one down in the pump you will need a dowel or pen to push in, you cannot push it in with the impeller alone. If this does not solve it, the drive unit is the only moving part so it would have to be the cause and we could try another.

Thanks for the advice Roger. I tried your suggestion and I’m still getting the same result. Would it be possible to get another drive unit to swap it to?

Of course, email me a copy of the receipt, Tunze at sbcglobal dot net, and we send a new one. There really is nothing else it could be.
