How long should a new tank cycle last? Its a 10g, and its been up for about a week. Went to the LFS and bought uncured LR and LS. Its been up for a week, but ive only been taking measurements for 4 days. here is what they are:
04/23: PH=8.0, AM=0.35, NO2=2.0, NO3=15ppm, temp= 79.5, SG=1.023
04/24: PH=8.0, AM=0.35, NO2=0.5, NO3=20ppm, temp= 79.5, SG=1.022
04/25: PH=8.1, AM=0.15, NO2=0.25, NO3=20ppm, temp= 79.0, SG=1.022
04/26: PH=8.1, AM=0.05, NO2=0.15, NO3=30ppm, temp= 79.5, SG=1.023

10 gallon
15lbs LS
15lbs LR
2x40 pc orbit fixture
AC110 (fuge mod - tho only running carbon right now)

To me this does not look like anything really "spiked" even tho they seem to be zeroing out. During a spike, how high should my parameters get? When is it time to start introducing suppliments eg. calcium, kalk, etc? and when is it time to put the macro in the fuge.

sorry i know its a lot of questions but im still a bit of a noob at this.

those 2 rocks in front are for the fuge (after i break them down of course :)

thanks, dominick

You're on the right track...

Of course it's zero'ing out ... your tank has no bio load so it's balancing out with what you got, and what you have is mostly bacterial die off rom LR causing the cycle ... however your tank's parameters are still too high to put a fish in. It's time to get a clean up crew! Some crabs and snails would be good ... Keep a low light cycle so you don't get a crazy algae bloom. Supplements can be added but I would wait until the tank cycles ...

I used a magic potion called Bio-Spira and it cycled my tank in about 2 days ... http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=788793

my lights are on about 4 hours a day right now, i started them at 3 hours a day. how long should i keep them on this timing? also, will a cleaner crew clean up all this dead crap and wavy stuff that i couldnt scrubb off the rocks (w/ a soft brush)?
