10g sps tank

Hi everyone.

I am setting up a 10g sps tank. I will be using a 150w sunpod. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what acropora would do best under these conditions? Also how often would I need to change the water if I only had one or two acroporas and no fish or other inverts? Thank you.
 
You could keep most if not all acroporas in a tank with that lighting. If i were you i would be worried about heat. That is a lot of light for a 10 gallon. I would still do a waterchange every few weeks. Water changes help remove wastes from coral feeding and detritus coming the lr.
 
Besides a chiller what are some good ways to cool down the tank? I don't want to use open top with fans because I think the evaporation would be too much and the salinity would not be very stable.
 
I have a 70w halide setup and a small pc fan over top the tank. I add about a half gallon a day due to evap. I'm getting a chiller as soon as I can scrape up the money for one.

Wav3form is your tank a 10g?
 
evap is massive with a 150w on a 10g.... you would def need an ato...ive just been topping off everyday...
 
I had a 250w pendent in a hood with a fan blowing through and never had a temp problem with my old 10g. It also evaporated about 1/2 gallon a day
 
If your set on a high powered MH over a small tank, open top is definately the easiest way to go. I had a 250w DE over my 18g cube and never had heating problems. Open top + air movement (nothing major, just keep the air in the room moving) = no problems.
 
i think the larger concern is water quality and water movement - your gonna want alot of random water movement in the tank without being too concentrated or intense.

also, remember to dose calcium and maintain alkalinity levels.

my best advice is to perform water changes much more often than every few weeks, in order to maintain relatively stable water conditions. perhaps every week change 5%.

and of course, water temperature stability will be important as previously discussed.
