10g updated pics

Hi all,

I have made alot of changes in this tank since I last posted. I do not know how to retrieve the old thread so I will start again. I had to remove the LR with all the GSP because it was taking over. Also, I placed several pieces from another tank that were not doing well. They are rehabing in this tank. I have since taken the other tank down and sent it to college [Jacksonville U.] with my son. Maybe it will do better there in his care.

I have upgraded the lighting on this 10g. The lights had evolved to a mix of primarily ecoxotic modules and stunners with 6 3w crees. Color was great but growth was slow. I had moved a tri color, green acro, 2 superman montis all bleached and doing poorly to this tank. Also a couple of new sps frag pieces from my LFS. the lights just were not strong enough to recover the ailing pieces and spur growth on the new sps.

I changed the set up to 18 3w crees and three eco stunner strips. I am using one magenta stunner and one 403 violet to try to keep the reds and purples from washing. This happened to me before when using only CW and RB LEDs.
Also using an 8k stunner.

I am happy that all pieces surged in growth in just 2 weeks and sps are coloring up. I wanted to wait awhile before posting pics but my wife brought out the camera and she is the only one of us that knows how to use it. I figured that it might be awhile before the oppretunity comes again. This is point and shoot and the colors are not as the eye sees it but is the best that I am capable of

A few other pics. In the first pic, can anyone ID the green coral in the middle? I think it is a form of Hydnophora. My wife refers to it as the "big dill pickle". The third pic, I tried to get the meteor shower encrusting the rock below the pink pocci and the monti cap. It is more blue or teal skinned then as seen in these photos. In the fourth pic is a piece of superman mounted on top of the maxi jet. It had turned almost white in the previous tank. The skin is bluing up again but the polyps are very thick now. They are also coming in yellow and red. Is that because of lighting or maybe it is a rainbo and not a superman?

Love the mushrooms. What exactly are you stocking in those pictures? I'd love to include some of them in my future set up.

John

I am stocking mostly very common corals, nothing that is limited edition or expensive. Some are frags from past tanks and others are from the frag rack at the LFS.

On the sand bed are trumpet[ green candy canes], unknown sps piece, a red w/ green eyes chalice, superman monti, seasons greeting monti, blue brain, red acans, spongodes, large green and purple lobo.

On the LR are FrogSpawn, Pink and Green Pocci, reviving tri color [ tan w/ blue tint returning], meteor shower, cali tort, orange monti cap, unknown purple w green polyp acro, stylo, hydnophora grandis, blue bird's nest, another unknown acro[ purchased brown but turning red-ish w/ green tips], and yellow scroll coral in back right on the sand bed.

All corals are frags from old tanks, purchased off frag racks or gifts from other local reefers. Some were brown or near dead when I got them. I enjoy seeing an unknown or ugly piece change and become something beautiful to look at. The most expensive piece in the tank was $30.00 for the frag of meteor shower. Most everything else was free or $5- $15. I, inturn have given alot away as well.

But no mushrooms in tank.

posted in the sps section and local but did not update here. I have made alot of changes to the tank to make room for growth. The red cap has been consigned to the larger tank. Had to frag back the 'canes and the BN. The LR w/ the Hydno Grandis had to be moved because the Hydno was sliming and consuming the corals around it.

No real changes in the husbandry. Still no filtration other then FF. Only WCs. Feeding abit more heavy using Filter Feeder Food from ReefCleaners. Only dosing Alk.

I am using someone else's iphone for a camera and have started a photobucket account. Trying to learn what I am doing.

I have changed the lighting alittle bit. I only have three CW crees. I removed the 80 degree optics and the spread is better. I had not realized that being that focused many corals were not getting that light. The acros have responded very positively but the red cap is becoming an orange cap after only about a week.

This is a dark FTS. Alittle spooky looking. Don't know why it turned out that way.

cali tort. Has grown very fast from a single stick frag. It is not showing it's real colors in the pic. I am a bad cameraman with a bad camera.

Green Pocci Hell!

I have found 11 new growth patches in this little nano.

As cool as the green looks next to the pink, I do not think that I would place this in a small tank again.

Too invasive.

Got the wife's video camera again. I am allowed to touch it once a month.( referring to the camera not the wife)

Wow. Beautiful tank. I dont know if you had a set color theme but everything came out on point.

Yes, if you can kindly share the equipment, that would be great!

Wow, i've never seen an Acro like that, sorry for the no I.D., but that thing is crazy lookin. Awesome tank btw.

Thanks for the kind words.

My equipment is basic.

One 10g tank purchased used in bad condition about 9 years ago. Used as a sump for 6 months and then made into a display about 8 1/2 years ago.

One HOB filter without the filtration. Only there of circulation and surface agitation. I stuff alittle FF in there for detritus.

Two little maxi jets.

One DIY led fixture. 15 RB, 3 CW, and three stunner strips ( 403 violet, magenta, cw)

I try to keep it simple. Good husbandry, regular WCs

cannot afford a better camera because my son's racing hobby absorbs money faster then I can make it
