Looking to start 10gal tank with 10gal sump/fuge is this a good idea for a beginner? On a budget if not what would be the smallist a beginner should concider? I am aware that a 10gal system takes more care water checking and changes etc. I plan on having a skimmer FOWLR to start a few cleaning crew and 2 fish oscillaris and something els. any thoughts?

i wouldn't recommend a 10 gal only because you will outgrow it so fast, all the equipment you spend money on will be useless. Try a 20L or a 30L at least. You'll save money in the long run.

theres nothing wrong with a 10 gallon tank. ive got one with 3 fish and fully stocked with corals. if you have the room for something bigger, get something bigger. you're gonna want to go bigger down the road. if not then a 10 gallon tank is fine. you just gotta be more careful with it.

I love my 10g also has 3 fish and loaded with corals but I am running a skimmer rated for 75g on it along with 175w mh it is alot of work yes but all that I can afford at the moment

I actually think a ten gallon is a perfect tank to get started. Thats what I used and I really want to set it up again.

If you have a ten gallon sump/fuge, all the better. Mantenance will be a breeze if you start with beginner corals and keep a low bioload in it. 10%-20% water changes should do it. I never used supplements on my ten. But then again, I had mostly softies with some LPS and only 1 Yellow Clown Goby.

I agree , 10 is a great starter, and if you decide to go bigger , you have a ready hospital tank, sump or keep as a nano for your bad hitchickers.
