10k question for SPS reef

What 10k bulbs can be used with out actinic's and still have a WHITE LOOK OR BLUE LOOK.

I want to change bulbs, but do not have actinic's.

try 10K xm's. they are a very cool white light with just a hint of blue. That's what i currently have right now.

Ditto

I actually use them because of the color and growth Concept3 was getting out of his corals.

Prior to that I had always used 20K XM's and all of my corals were either blue or purple. With the 10K's I have a very nice variety of colors in my tank, it's been only about 5 months since I made the switch and I couldn't be any happier with the color and growth. I do use VHO but those are 10K as well and are only used for sun up and sun down, the rest of the time it is only MH.

I would not say XM 10k's by themselves are going to give you a crisp white. To me, they are a white but tinge of yellow but if you have actinic it takes the yellow out easily. IMO, I would go with an aquaconnect 10K bulb IF you can find one. Or stick with a 14K bulb. Good luck

I use XM10K's only over my 125.

Thanks for the replies. I am suing a coralife 2x 150 watt 20k fixture right now and want to add a different bulb.

I'm running 250w 10k XM's with actinic suppliment. Although I really like the colors of my corals and the growth I am getting. I think the bulbs are a tab bit too yellow for my taste. Not sure what bulbs I will try next...

I love my XM 10K's but I dont think I would like them as much without actinic. You might look at the reeflux bulbs. There a little more on the blue side of white.

The reeflux bulb is what I've been thinking of trying next. Seen some pretty nice tanks with them running.

Just went from 10k coralview to 20 k

Just went from 10k coralview to 20 k

I have supllement actinic blues , my 3 10 400MHs were two white(yellow) really like this xm's 20k soothing deep blue

i have had luck with ushido 10ks with a suplemented hamilton 14k for a bit of blue. IMO it looks really awesome.

The people with XM 10k's, what ballasts are you running? I am using Blueline e ballasts, and to me the 10k's have a bit of a yellow color.

I would agree with jay24k, 10k xm's are more yellow then white without actinics.. Right now i am trying blv-14k on HQI ballast and i have to tell u..color is great, but for some reason my corals dont really like it.. I did try EVc-10k onhqi ballast and after 2 weeks burning in,yellow was gone and the were pretty good..

I agree with the Reeflux 10k
The Reeflux12k are too blue IMO

On what ballast>?

Mine aren't yellow, but then again we're all subjective to what we consider "white". I jumped from Iwasaki 6500K's back to XM 10K's (which I had on before the 65's) and that's a jump from yellow to white.

In addition, my Icecap 250w ballasts throw a whiter light compared to my friend's blueline ballasts. Organics also play a minor part in light spectrum/transmission.
