10K with the look of 14k/20k

If you can find them, the Aquaconnect 14 k's are the only way to go in my opinion.

The aquaconnect 14Ks have exactly the same spectral output as the Phoenix 14Ks and cost twice as much.

Close...but not exactly:

Also, Phoenix bulbs are DE....The Aquaconnects are SE. I paid $101 each for my 250 w Aquaconnects, aren't Phoenix bulbs around $70 ? I have also heard some complaints about the Phoenix bulbs changing color spectrum when they are around 9 months old, never heard anything like that about the Aquaconnects.

Kind of a moot point anyway, they can be real difficult to get.

EDIT: spectral difference (and par difference) is greater on PFO HQI ballasts than the Icecap ballasts shown above.

I submit, for you're approval, the 14K AC DE, vs the Phoenix 14K

The differences you showed before are pretty much the same as any other case:

and SE bulb beats a DE bulb on the same ballast. That shielding kills yah.

Maybe I'm thinking about the Radiums and Aquaconnects, theyre all pretty damn similar.

XM20K and Radiums are pretty similar also:

Actually, that looks like the XM kicks the crap out of the radium to me.

Larger blue spike, larger violet spike, higher par....

To be fair to the radiums. Nobody in there right mind would run a radium on a M59 ballast. Try Sanjay's comparison between these bulbs on a HQI ballast and your will see why the radiums are phenominal bulbs (besides the fact that they have a short life).

OOPS...it looks like the XM bulb is considerably better with the M59 ballastover the HQI ballast. It compares better to the radium with the M59 ballast.

I don't particularly like the XM 20KK look (too blue) and think that the look of a radium on a HQI ballast is the best out there. I also run the 10KK XM bulbs with 2 110W actinics over another section of the tank and the look is very similar to the look of the radiums.

I have a hamilton 14KK on order and am looking forward to trying this bulb.

Anybody know anything about the "South Pacific Sunlight 10 K" bulb shown in this test ?

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2006/4/review

Par is higher than either Aquaconnect 14K, Phoenix 14K, or Reeflux 10 K, and the Sunlight bulb is color corrected to almost 19K on an Icecap ballast....pretty blue.

Are they not available here ? I have not heard or seen anything about these bulbs, and I would think there would be a lot of talk about them with these test results.

Check out the Phoenix 250w on an EVC ballast VS the Radium 250w on an HQI....Pretty damn similar if you ask me...

"Hi nice pics" ?!?!

Oddly enough that is exactly what they posted in another thread. At least in that thread the comment actually made sense, here it just doesn't. *sigh*.

Ok, now IM VERY INTERESTED IN THE SPS10K, I know a good many wholesalers use them...

Im likeing the sps10K...

I would really like to see it in person...

ANYONE HAVE A SPS10K???

How blue is it?

hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

If you don't want the XM10K's why not get the 400W 20KXM's and supplement them with daylight VHO's?

I recently switched from 250W XM10K's(Great growth and color) to 400W 20KXM's. The 20K's really make everything pop more, although things still look unnatural to me. Corals in my tank now look like fake or plastic coral.

Man why would you switch when you had a beautiful tank on the 10k's and VHO sups?;) I really don't understand all the gripe about XM 10k's being to yellow. Yellow isn't a color I have seen on mine and I just recently made a switch to them back at the end of April of this year.

Personally mine are a very crisp white light. All my corals colors look awesome and natural looking. I sup with only 2 - URI VHO 110 watt Super R's and have considered using T5's for sup in the future since I have and IceCap 660 ballast that can run them. Just so you know I run 2, 250 watt 10k, SE, XM's on ARO elec. ballasts. I love XM's so much that I don't plan on switching to anything else. The grow is off the charts with them as well and I keep them about 10 inches from the top of the water on my 75 gallon tank. I have some caps that have grown a 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the last month and a half and they're a located on the bottom of my 75 gallon.

XM's 10k's deserve some props people, plus they are relatively cheap compared to most bulbs out there.

Shawnts106 I would still consider heavily on using the 10k, XM's and look at sup. with T5's. I think you will get exactly the look you want and growth will be off the charts.

Thanks,
Bill

The DE Aquaconnects look like Phoenix, but the SE Aquaconnects look nothing like them , IMO.....

Doesn't JB NY use XM 10k's + VHO actinic?
I don't see a lot of colors missing in his tank ...

How many VHO though? 4x?

The 10K XM's were pretty white in my setup. I highly reccommend them to anyone who is looking for great color and growth.
