110 gal build

Setting up my first real reef system during a snow storm and need a little advice. I've been to a couple COMAS meetings and on RC for little bit to further my knowlage of reefing. I have a 30gal and 14biocube reefs that have done fairly well just need more room. Got a great deal on a used RR 110 (I.D.28"tall17deep"47"wide). Built stand, cleaned and test filled tank. Didn't get any overflow pipes but got small wet dry sump that I'm not using. Wanted to build a acrylic 3 chamber sump 16"by14"by36". Have a 150w MH clamp on back that was too much for 30 but don't think it's enough for the height of new tank. I am in the process of building a hood and wanted to get 4-36" T-5's and at least 1 250 MH. Also have a AquaC 120 with mag 7 for skimmer. I was reading Herbies thread on silent overflow and was wanting the quietest system as possible, do I use 2 durso for overflow or 1 or just stright tubes? Has anyone tried this? How far from top should overflow pipe be I have 2 holes 1" & 3/4". Wanted to use a mag 12 and 2 1/2" sea swirl for return from sump is this adequate flow for tank and enough to mathch the 3/4" return line? Does anyone know where to get acrylite locally or want to build a sump? Im sure I'll have lots more questions.
Thanks for now.

good luck on the new/used tank, I would recommend you check out regal plastics for your acrylic and adhesive.

they are on Reno around morgan rd.

Do you have a pic of the tank? Is there an overflow box in the tank or are you just wanting to install pipes in some holes? I personally do not like durso stand pipes, I prefer gurgle busters.

You can get acrylic at regal plastics. They carry all the weldon products as well.

It does have overflow box with a 1"and 3/4" holes drilled in bottom. Will I need just one overflow pipe if using the gurgle buster?
Try to get pics on later.

Yes, you can use one, overflow drain pipe for the gurgle buster. Here's a link on how to build. http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson57268/HGB/HGB_construction.html
The last pic in the link shows the gurgle buster in a hang on the back overflow, but the same concept can be done in a reef ready tank. I did it on my tank. Mine is a 150 gallon display fed by a 1200 gph external return pump, and my gurgle buster handles it just fine.
I would use the 1" for the drain and the 3/4" hole for your return line. The only part that concerns me is the 1" drain, that's just me, I like at least a 1.5" drain.

hofer gurgle buster

hofer gurgle buster

I had these on both of the 4 x 4 frag tanks I had last year and loved them.

My only recommendation,

Do not glue the cap on top. From time to time you may need to do maint/clean the hofer. If the cap is lose you can remove it, slide the outer coupling off and clean any debris (algae/snails/etc..) that is trying to block you up. Then you simply re assemble. Don't have to try to get the whole pipe out. Do have to kill the pumps for a few minutes.
