I just started up my 12 gal nano with live rock, how long should i keep the light on 8 hours? can anyone suggest a thread or sticky on the subject?

If your not really growing anything, just stick to the minimum. That would keep algae outta there. I would say like 7-8 hrs is enough.

7-8 huh i bought the live ock used and i was told that there would be mushrooms growing and i see things on the rock. so would 8 hours be enough?

I turn my lights on at 4 pm every day and shut them off at 11 pm every night. I haven't had any problems with the little bit of light.
I turn on my 30 gal tall at 7 am & turn off at 11 pm.
I think each tank has its own limits due to the varying natural light.

I run my 12gl dlx from around 3:30-10:00.The rest of the time the moonlights are on and i got zoas, trumpet coral, anenomes, firefish, and a ricordea. I got the nano cube so i gotta switch the lights manual by hand all the time.My tanks doing great.I never turn on the tank at the same minute everyday so it adds a little more reality to the tank.Once i get home from school i open my blinds and that lets in alot of light. Then i have a 2.7 gal pico next to it with nothin in it so far i then turn those lights on.Then i finally turn on the 12 gal.See it adds a sunrise affect sort of.And for the night theres no sunfall everything jus shuts off lol. Kind of funny. Then the moonlights go on.

i got a timer from ikea for 4 bucks and set my nano light for 8 hours. have you guys heard of putting a bigger punmp in the nano. my pump was very loud so i switched it out to a maxijet 600. i was thinking of getting a 1200 or something high output. would that be too much flow?

the 900 is what i see recommended most for a 12g, and works great for me.
