12 year old hippo tang at Fuji's

For those that have been to Fuji's within the last 3-4 weeks. Does anyone here know the story behind the old hippo tang that was recently brought to Fuji's? This isn't the huge one in his display tank. Anyhow, Fuji tells me that a local hobbyist shut down a tank and moved away and just dropped the fish off. Supposedly whoever it was had kept the hippo tang for 12 years. That's pretty amazing keeping a fish that long. Anyhow, the fish does look bad - severe HLLE but it's around 8"long and healthy - not fat, but healthy nonetheless. Lateral line erosion is likely due to improper diet. I talked Fuji into letting me adopt it. It was in that little 75g in the corner and now seems so much happier in my big tank. I am going to try to heal him up through a proper diet of vitamins and lots of algae. He gobbles up algae like he hasn't had any in years. I was just curious to see if anyone might have known anything else on this old fish. Pretty cool that it's so old.

IDK anything about the fish but I have a Yellow tang going on 6 years not counting how old it was when it was catpured. I would be suprised if someone actually kept the fish that long if it was in the shape your describing when you bought it. But you never know.

Btw, how is the hippo doing you got from me? Do you still have it?

My pair of Oc clowns are according to the former own coming up on 9 or 10 years.Know way to know for sure though.

Yes I still have the other hippo tang I got from you Phil. Had him 1 year and 3 months now. Doesn't seem like its' been that long. My oldest fish is a harlequin tusk of 3 years in my possession.

Good of you to adopt the ole timer. I'm sure he's much happier in your little ocean. With friends and good "eats".

I know we are talking about saltwater fish but I have not been into salt long enough to have bragging rights!

I had a freshwater tilipia for 11 years. I lost her last fall due to my stupidity. I setup her tank on our back porch last summer as I had done before. When early fall came I was in no hurry to get her back into the house since her tank was heated. What I didn't realize was the heater had been unplugged. She got WAY TOO cold. We tried to warm her up slowly but it was too stressful. I was so upset and mad at myself. She was one tough fish! Sharp teeth....bit me several times! It was real funny to watch my dog stick it's nose in the tank and get bit. That never happened again. The dog watched from the outside...never from the top!
