120 gallon reef tank

Hi i'm relatively new to the hobby
I am starting a saltwater 120 gallon tank and i was wondering if a fowlr or a reef tank would be easier?
I would like to have a volitan lionfish a puffer fish and an eel if possible
What kind of eel and pufferfish would be suitable for this tank?
It's a 4x2x2 so I guess i could put some more fish in there is a clown fish with an anemone possible or would the lionfish eat it?

Welcome to Reef Central. Easier is a relative term in this hobby but for the purposes of this thread a FOWLR would be. A lionfish will eat anything it can fit in its mouth without question so clownfish are a no go. Most any eel will be suitable for this tank except for the morays that get really large. They are escape artists so a tight fitting top or netting is a must. What kind of puffers do you like, that will make it easier to tell you if they will work or not. Fish that do well with the fish you want are groupers, squirrelfish and larger angels. Make sure your filtration and equipment is up to par before these fish are added to the tank since they are messy eaters and high waste producers

If I had the time and money I would let to set up a big FOWLR tank. Fish-only systems allow to keep some really awesome fish - large angels, triggers, Harlequin tusks, butterflies.

If I was setting up a FOWLR, I'd add consider these:
Blue throat trigger
Banana wrasse
Raccoon butterfly
Regal or bellus angel pair
Australian Harlequin tusk

Look into a tang as well - a purple, yellow or powder blue tang would be a great addition as well.

I've heard that eels are shy and hard to feed.

@Dmorty217 all the eel I can find are subspecies of muray eel can you give me an idea of what specie of eel I can find?and the clownfish won't be protected by the anemone?
@brett559 are all this fish compatible with an eel a lionfish and a puffer?how many of them can i put in my 4x2x2?

And lastly can I put a violet goby dragon in my aquarium?

The clowns swim away from the anemone. The lion would pick them off one by one when they do so.

A good website to look at when determining stocking is liveaquaria.com The website list minimal tank size.

In addition once you think you have your stocking list feel free to post it here.

I would stick with a fowler system as a beginning saltwater tank.

Get on live aquaria and look at those eels to give you a idea. Most places don't sell the eels that get 6ft and bigger around than your arm
