120 on the second floor?

Depends on the size and spacing of the joists. I have a 125 on the second floor of a 100 year old flat. If the joists are at least 2x10's and you place the tank perpendicular to the joists you should have no issues. My floor deflected less with the 6' 125 than it did with the 4' 75 it took the place of.

I did some research on this awhile back. It seems the standard answer was, "it depends on the house". You are better off with a 125 than a 120 though, because the weight is distributed over 6 feet instead of four.

avgjoe, houses built in the mid to late 70's were built during a time of high lumber cost, i would say no on a 2sty home, avg. joist size is prob. 6" between 1st & 2nd floor & may be 24" on center depending on the builder.
