sweet well i get to do an upgrade forum. most of you know the jist. so here is the plan. and yes this will be all HOB.

found a fat 4ft 120 gallon tank at sea creatures. and i will be transferring all my stuff to the new tank. not to mention have 100mp's of flow to work with. and the tank turned out to be 3 sided starfire.

my first steps were to set aside extra sand, dont know if i want more rocks just yet.

the tank will be going on top of a rustic desk probably turned around for a different look. should look nice.

next i ordered a bigger refugium, which might require a hole to be drilled on top of glass bracing.

im also going to be painting my huge skimmer from red to black. haha. im gonna hide the heater better and make it as clean as possible. any thoughts are always welcome, and pics to come.

Here's my thought. If you're going to drill just drill for an overflow and get a sump.

Jk

Just giving you a hard time since we're always telling you to drill. Lol.

I'm sure that tank is going to look awesome. Can't wait to see it up and running. :D

okay haha, and its alot of cash to do this and if it wasnt for the new vortech, i would have, but its gonna be sweet, and remember i have the best HOB skimmer out there. so i dont have the extra cash lying around to sump, new skimmer, and new stand. just remember this is my hobby and will no way be my final tank.

The heater can go into the Refugium

it can, it even fits perfectly into the skimmer also, but if any of these pumps fails then its one more thing to worry about, plus i think the flow is to slow from the refugium, especially for 120 gallons. so im gonna hide it under the back of the skimmer body thats in the water in the main tank. i tried this before but it eventually falls with crappy suction so im gonna add somthin to keep it to stay better.

vinegar baths for a pump, mp40, skimmer and skimmer pump, just finished spray painting the skimmer from red to black(shoulda tried that from the begining, drying now. still red parts in the front area that might need to be painted with a small brush.

we want PICS!

 Will be an awesome build! Looking forward to all the build pics and updates!! ;) I have seen Pedro’s 90 and it was in no way inferior to an aquarium with a sump, quite the opposite, plus no worry of a flood!! This is what makes each aquarium unique in this hobby!

k here is the tank on top of the desk i have, this thing is just as heavy duty as the tank is. now it looks weird like that so the second picture is of the tank from the opposite side which is what will probably end up happening. oh and before you say anything, this desk was to go in the second bedroom and without cutting the legs down it wont fit. so im not getting rid of it, and i dont want to put it in storage, so this is why it has become my new stand.

here it is from the back side, that way it would just look more like a stand.

preparing the skimmer for paint, i ended up spray painting the front part as well, to much red still showed thru. so its mainly all black now. just hides it more, obviously. hahaha

still letting the skimmer dry more, also ordered my 5 stage plus ro/di from bulk reef supply. and my mp60 should be here tomorrow, and then my larger refugium next week.

btw, mp40 woke up alot after its bath. like new again. way more flow, i guess you should do a cleaning every 6 months, not every year.

I usually soak my pumps sometimes every month but most of the time every other month. I always notice a difference so that is why i do it. It might be an advantage for you to buy an extra wet side and swap them when you are soaking the other...

not a bad idea steffen, and yeah i never used to do this back in the day.

today im gonna paint the back of the tank black, found an oil based flat black and im gonna use a foam roller just to try something a bit different.

really should have done this from the start, you cant even tell its in the tank now, outside you can but not inside much.

yeah man, i really dont get why they came out with black about 6 months after i got mine. bad timing i guess. not that i didnt consider selling mine and buying a new black one haha. but its a huge improvment in looks now. for in tank looks, i kinda liked the red. outside though.

haha, hey jmait got a new favorite fish !!! well avatar pic anyways, i got to say eric, i think its time to let go of the furry wall. hahaha
