What's your secret to keeping acropora spathulata alive and healthy long term. Everyone I know who tries it has it fizzle and die within a month or two. They're so common and inexpensive on many vendor sites and absolutely jaw dropping beauty and color but such a challenge

Looking fantastic. I bet my brown acro is really white with blue or purple tips but I just can't get the algae to pack up and move out. :) Ditto on the spat question, what's the secret?

Thanks guys

As for the spaths I've had much better luck with the Aussie ones. The ones I have gotten from Fiji or indo could never get to do well. Mostly just turn to brown turds. Not sure if it's just by chance But the Aussie ones I get seem to be healthier to start out with.
For the spaths that have done well I blast them with my radiums for about a month or until they start to saturate with color and lose that pale freshly shipped look. Than will clip a few frags to see how they do under the T5. But overall think the major factor with the spaths is flow. These things need to be blasted with indirect flow. My grow out tank is like a washing machine.

that last yellow one looks awesome, hope it keeps the yellow color! those new pieces look sweet too. how often do you get shipments and how long do you color them up before fragging and selling usually?

Thank you Cody
Yea that last one is a pickachu had it since November has been moved around a few times but think it's finally settling in hoping the reds start to come in.
Lately have been getting new shipments in almost weekly if not every other week. Every piece has to be assessed individually based on color and health. The healthiest ones usually will cook for a few weeks before I cut any frags off. Others can take months before I'm happy with the way it looks and will cut a frag.

These little guys came in yesterday exited to see what they do in a few months.

I love that red coral in the second from last shot. Great tank and colors look spot on. What are you dosing of anything

Oh baby. Nice palette!
No more iron dosing?
What % wc and how often?
What's for nutrient reduction? Sorry forget..
Also, what ca media?

No was noticing a difference in macro algae growth no matter how much iron I dosed.

Doing about 5% wc (3) times a week so about 15% weekly. But over the last 2 months I've pretty much done a 150% WC about 600gals. Didn't like the direction some of my colonies where going, growth had slowed, STN and was losing a few. After head scratching searching testing for any known causes no smoking gun was found. Did a Triton test nothing alarming came back from that except almost all my trace elements where very low or below LOD. Figured starting to do real water changes would help. Since doing so the system has done a 180 and growth has exploded again and any sulky ones are rebounding.

For nutrient control still just have bunch of marine pure bricks, Skimmer and tons of macro algae in the refugiums. Cheato and calurpa the main ones. Also experimenting with some other ones. Pom Pom gracilara and blue hypnea.

And lastly using TLF reborn for Ca media

Thanks for the info.
I've never been able to get red algeas to grow in my system. Curious to see how you do.
And that is very interesting about the large wc making a tank turnaround. I kind of feel like doing the same thing... see if it kickstarts a few stalled corals.
What salt are you using?
