well it is a little late for that comment (bulkhead) because my overflow is already being siliconed on and the tank should be up and running today/tomorrow. I ran out of silicone so all work has stopped.
 
I love the idea/size of your tank. Matches exactly what I did...:)

Please take the rest of my post as someone trying to help you avoid serious headaches/heartaches in the future.

First problem I see is that your are using particle board for the top. unpainted at that. This will last maybe a couple of months at best.
Particle board is not moisture friendly.

Second - The metal used for the reflectors will rust very quickly. If you plan on keeping inverts, all it will take is one very small piece of this in your tank to wipe them all out.

Third - Metal screws. See above. Everything corrodes, somethings faster than others. Rust+salt+water=disaster of inverts...

Fourth is actually a question...Why are the baffles in the sump notched in the back? The idea behind the baffles is to separate the water and slow it down. This kinda defeats the purpose.

I am also concerned with the black silicone in the sump. What type/brand is it. There are only a few black silicones that are reef safe.

Again, I am not trying to put you or your ideas down...Just trying to save you some headaches.

I was unsure about the partical board as will and made a new thing out of 5ply.

About the metal it is meant for roofing and have some on my 75g and it is not rusting so i'm not conserned about that.

LOL at the "baffels" i know i just wanted to seperate the sump a little it is not ment for functionality.

The black silicone is form AGA and was ment for aquariums.

I would buy proper reflectors for the HQI bulbs to maximize the light reaching your sandbed.

If you're gonna have the heat of MH, you might as well get as much light as possible from it.

I'm going to test my water today and see if it is ready to add my coral. For those who do not have time to read the entire thread the rocks came from all my cycled tanks so i was not expecting a cycle at all.
 
A reflector like this one http://www.aquabuys.com/miva/mercha...ss_reflector&Category_Code=d6&Product_Count=3 will increse your usable light by about 30% straight out of the box, if you did a little modding you could get it even higher, and the best part is that by reducing waste light and light directed back towards your lamps you will decrese heat produced (if only slightly) and increse the expected life span of your lamps by long enough a period to pay for them selves assuming you aren't the type of person who replaces lamps every 6 months like clockwork.

Edit: taking a look at the hood picture 13"LX9.5"WX4.5"H might be too migfor your hood, I don't know the dimensions of a 20H and I'm too lazy to look for them
 
that picture is only with the one right side metal halide on. As for the reflectors i will probably get new ones when i get money. i'm 15 and don't work so yeah. If i where to get just one 150w MH then i would have to sell all my ballasts and endcaps for about $75 each. Also you mentioned heat, well my heater is trying to keep up with my fans so i had to unplug them the tank cools off quick with the fans.
 
Is there a show where you have acces to a metal break? Also do you have UV glass between your corals and the lights? MH give off lots and lots of UV, significantly more than natural sunlight.
 
can you rephrase your first question?
Yes there is a tempered glass shield between the light and coral. I was not born yesterday, LOL.
