125 Build

I'll check them out, so later it you want to do a reef system could you use the same LED's just more of them

Yes you would need more of them and they would have to be mounted on a heatsink. In large numbers (enough for sps) LEDs can produce some heat from the circuit board they are mounted on. As this heat is not transferred to the tank, it will shorten the life of the LEDs so a heatsink is a must to keep them cool. HTH!

Seems like the u-channel would act as a heatsink, and not to mention would probably cost a fortune to build as a reef setup

It looks like the cycle is over....just checked ammonia and nitrites and got 0 for both. Going to start doing some water changes.

Sorry to hear about your flame! I'll probably get one more angel. Most likely an emperor angel. There are some other fish I want to get first!

Really like those LED's on the aluminum channel. I am hoping to do something similar?

Now that is this up and running, would you say 24 LED's is about right for the 6' 125g tank?

Are the while and blues alternating, both of the same alum channel and on the opposite one?

Yes alternating side to side and front to back. 24 is perfect for a fowlr, much brighter than I thought!

MarkGP,

I love the tank. Now that you have some great healthy fish in the tank, I would strongly advise that you either QT or pretreat any additions. Too many times I have seen people lose everyting from new, tempting, additions. I have personally made those same mistakes.

I would even rec having some meds on hand. - Chloroquine and Praziquantil to start. I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks alprazo for the heads up! I have kept fish for over 30 years and I learned about quarantining fish a long time ago. All my fish go in quarantine for at least 4 weeks before they get released into my display.

Mark, thats a sweet new fish you have! What kind is that?

My build has come to a depressing "almost" stop... My dad's been sick, so I haven't been able to borrow their garage to work on the stand, or to paint the tank.... Living in this rather small apartment building is making building a 50 challenging.... But my 10g is almost cycled, so I'm hoping to move some inhabitants in 2 weeks or a little less.... I'll be hooking you up with some pics of the plumbing my friend, it's going to work out great! Thanks for all the help!
