I believe the problem took care of itself Greg.... After running for a bit, they've stopped sucking air pockets from the top .... I also had to mess with the direction a bit ... the combined flow started to "excivate" some of my SB.... I had to move my shrooms to a different location to ... too much flow.... But I created a new low flow area which I really did not have before .... With all the pumps running now I've got a 38.6 X's turn over per hour...

WOO HOO......

Cool, glad it worked out, time to tweak it all

Doody, it really depends a lot of tanks have tempered bottoms but a lot also have tempered backs, it's hard to say with out a gamble.

Well he went straight to hiding when I put him in the tank but I finally found another supermale Lineatus Wrasse, he's gorgeous. I'll get some pics as soon as possible but sometimes it take up to a week for them to come out, longest I've had to wait for a wrasse is a day so we'll see.

Great..... !!

Hey Greg, Have you checked out the debate that's going on about BB vs SSB..??? I thought of your tank first thing when the discussion got around to how much trouble you ( and I ) are going to have with our sand beds.... Take a look if you want or get the chance ... I think your take would really mean alot to the rest of us "sand people"......

I try to respond to most of those posts but there are so many BB believers now it's hard, it's the new fad and the cool thing to do for most.
Which thread are you talking about, post a link

Your tank is gorgeous! I love that star. . . I would never get one because, I too, have heard that they are difficult. (I will never keep anything I have little doubt on!) He looks very healthy! Keep up the beautiful work. One day - I hope to have a tank as gorgeous as yours! Except, in my way smaller 30 Gallon. HeHe. :-)

Greg, your tank is awesome.

Greg, your tank is awesome.

Could you show me the recent pics of your sps?
I have similar lighting setup even if mine is just 48". Some people says, "150W MH is not enough for acros" I'd like to show the coloration of your acros to them, although my stuffs are still brown.
Also, can 0 ppm of nitrate be maintained even by using bio-ball?

I don't think so.... I say that ( aside from a straight "NO" ) because you may be able to control nitrates if they are kept totally submerged..???

Thanks,
Which star are you talking about, the blue linkia? If so you need a much larger tank with tons of LR for them to graze on.

I'll try and get some tomorrow. Water quality is as important with SPS as lighting

Fishman, I responded to the other BB debate thread. You can keep 0ppm with bioballs as long as you keep them clean.

How do you mean clean..??
As long as there's nothing getting trapped in them, that's what causes nitrates, things getting stuck in them and breaking down into the water.

But they ( the bio-balls ) have to remain fully submerged to do this right??? I mean a refugium is using LR and macroalgae and waste is being deposited on the LR but it's still breaking down the nitrates due to it's high porosity.... I'm getting confused here because I've been removing bio-balls from my sump to convert it to a fuge.... Now if I can save them and just run them fully submerged and accomplish the same thing as using LR then why does everyone want to say: "Pull the bio-balls out"...??

Bioballs don't totally break down waste you need LR to do that but if the water makes it back from the bioballs to the LR in the tank the cycle completes. Most bioballs that cause issues are those that have detritus on them and can't break them down totally so if you have enough flow going through them to keep them clean it shouldn't be that big of a deal. A fuge is much better to have but you may want to add one on, if you put it at your main return you're going to have too much flow going through it.

Here's some pics of my non colorful acros, I'll try and take some more tomorrow, also these are with a point and shoot digital camera. Also don't forget DE bulbs are stronger than SE bulbs and 10k are stronger than 20k.

I'm so used to getting fish that jump out now that he'll be in the tank in 5 seconds flat!
You know the real coloring of that piece, I hate pics of SPS you can never see the real color.
They had some of those at Coastal Friday, Sherry picked up one, they're the ORA chip's coral. It's actually the firt SPS I ever had.
