I read all 24 pages; nice work (understatement of the year.) One question I didn't think of until page 24: What type of sand/substrate are you using, and how much of it??

Thanks, the substrate is about 140lbs of aragalive sand. A lot of people use play sand but I think spending an extra $100 bucks was definitely worth it, it's very important to the health of the tank.

Hey Greg,

Your sandbed doesn't have any layers of denitrification, why is that?

Just curious,
Carl

It does, I just use a Kent scraper every couple of weeks to hide it from the edge near the glass, I don't want to look at the bubbles and all of the colors in the sandbed.

I often wondered why more people didn't scrape the very front of the sand, the main reason I hesitated about sand in the first place was those ugly lines of muck from the sand bed looking gross thru the glass.

I wonder why people do a lot of wierd things and this is one of them.

Well here's my new pieces of the week. The first is an acan lord I picked up at a LFS Thursday, the second is a frag of superman danae that I got from chrisaggie.
The other pics I picked up at the meeting Saturday, 2 blastos, 2 micromussa frags, and a pink echino.

I really like that Pink Echino... it will look great next to the Green Brain. :)

I don't know if it'll stay there, my girlfriend thinks the sandbed is too crowded so I'll find a nice home for it in the rocks somewhere.

Nice pieces Gregg.
And thanks again for letting my wife and I tag along.

No problem, hope you come next month also. You can click on my red house and register on our site if you want.
Was the tank what you were expecting???

Rest my eyes

Rest my eyes

Greg,

Thanks for the pic of your engineering goby. He looks like mine. A cool fish to watch because of thier eel like movement. Great tank and great thread. My wife/girlfriend ask me to get a 125 gal about two weeks ago. She does not understand the work that goes into a tank. And the sweet thing is she was going to pay for it. I will continuie to read this thread. There is no need for you to upgrade. You have a great looking tank that does not need any improvement. One question to ask is, what one coral would you not put in your tank?

Keep on trucking brother!

Thanks, if you're going for the 125 I would really suggest the 180g, you just get more depth for aquascaping.
There's actually a few corals I'll never put in my tank, galaxia, star polyps, xenia (I have cespitularia, the blue xenia, but it grows slow), and I've noticed that for some reason that I'm really lazy when it comes to feeding my sun corals, they could be a lot healthier.

Gregg your tank is truely amazing!!!! People the pictures here do no justice.

I have now been inspired to add to my tank.
And I must say, I think the first thing I want to add is that neon green toadstool. Any ideas where I could get a piece?

You also said those fans are super quiet. Do you have info on those? I may look into it.
Also sorry, now that I think of it, I don't remember if your tank made noise in the overflows. I may have been to mesmerized by your tank to hear it. But if not, have you done anything in there to minimize the noise?

Thanks, the only place I know to find one of the same color that I have is from a guy in our club. He sells frags. It's called a Madagascar Leather, you can see how small the frag was when I firt got it.

The fans are made by Current USA, they're really nice. I picked them up at a LFS but he gets them from the wholesaer in Miami so some stores in your area may have them, if you can't find them and you come up for the meeting I can bring you some if you want.
The overflows use the standard AllGlassAquarium, duro pipes, the real key to a quiet overflow is to not have any tight turns or drops in the drain pipe. You also don't want any sagging in the drain pipes.

Yeah I think most of my noise comes from the dropping of the water into the overflow. I have to find a way to increase the level so it isn't that far of a drop.

I think I will chack around here to see if I could find the fans. Anything that I can do to lessen the noise will be great.

Does the person with the taodstool only sell to mebers?

Oh and if it isn't too much trouble, could you posty a picture of your overflow with the dorso? I would like to see how far the water drops.

Good choice

I'll take the pics tomorrow

Well I have Red bugs, which isn't really a big deal since the only downside to treating the tank is that you kill all shrimp and crabs, I don't have shrimp and only like 5 hermit crabs. I posted a thread with pics but figures I would post here also.
