125 gallon in-wall build

Attempted to take some photos of the new fish.

One-spot foxface rabbitfish. He is a little skinny right now. Hopefully he will fatten up.

Male lyretail anthias. He is not eating NLS pellets yet (this is what I primarily feed) but he is eating frozen mysis with gusto.

Been awhile since I posted, just thought I'd give an update on the status of the tank. The tank continues to do well and coral growth and coloration is the best I've ever had.

Unfortunately, the lyretail anthias never acclimated well and did not survive :(. I also lost a firefish to "carpet surfing". I plan on building a wooden barrier around the tank to prevent jumps but still keep the top open for gas exchange and light penetration.

I've been fighting a case of "brown sand" that is probably a combo of diatoms, cyano, and diano, it's hard to say. I just did the "three days lights out" routine. Hopefully that will kick it or at least reduce it. I hope to add new pics this weekend.

Great looking tank! I love the minimalist aquascaping. I had a 125 several years ago but got out of the hobby due to a divorce. I have started up again with a couple small tanks, but am planning for an in-wall hopefully in the not too distant future. Threads like this are truly inspirational!

I just went through your entire build and I only see one problem with your project, where is the recliner. I would move out the small table and put in a comfortable chair or sofa so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your hard work. I know this probably wont sit to well with the wife but its worth a try. The tank looks great. Good job.

Thanks very much for the kind words! I love the dimensions of a 125 for an in wall tank.

What happened to your tuskfish? I didn't see him listed.

Sadly he was becoming increasingly aggressive. He chased two fish out of the tank and was becoming a real bully to the other fish. So back to the fish store he went. I miss him but I love the new direction my tank is taking: tons of small colorful fish.

Thanks! A recliner does sound good but I love having an area to sit and talk when people come over. No wife yet, just a live in girlfriend. Which means I still get to do what I want lol.

Tang feeding frenzy! Well I don't know if it's a frenzy since I only have two...

I've had a new clown in quarantine for awhile and he finally went in last night. I was very concerned that the old clown would not take kindly to the new arrival. Luckily for me they paired instantly!

Their first meeting :inlove:

Updated tank tour. The three day lights out cured most of the brown spots on my sand but not all :sad2: . Other than that I am very happy with how things are progressing. The tank is a bit cloudy though as I just did a water change though. Oh well, hope everyone enjoys!

Beautiful tank! I love the open middle. I am starting up a 125 and hope mine looks as good as yours. Good work

Thanks! I went with the open middle as I thought it would give it a "big" natural feel. Also, it really helps cut down on costs. Good luck with yours!

Went to the NCPARS Winter Frag Swap at That Fish Place this weekend. Picked up three really nice corals.

Nice big green monti cap:

My mom had this little guy (cherub pygmy angel) in her nano tank for the past year. Since her tank is quite small she can only have one fish so she decided to donate this guy to my tank so she can try something new. He's still hiding a lot, mostly because the arc-eye hawkfish is giving him a hard time. And I was worried about him being aggressive...hopefully he stays nice and submissive.
