125 gallon lighting?

most likely. t5s are pretty powerful. I've bleached sps in an 18 inch deep tank using only a 4 bulb tek light

two side by side covering all 6 feet will be plenty considering the depth at 18 1/2". That's a lot of light bulbs - I'm too tired to add up the cost of 12 T5s versus 3 halides. might or might not be worth considering. then again, I'm a fan of halide :)

I did the T5 SPS and had some success, though the halides seemed a lot less temperamental (like Dan said - it doesn't take much to bleach with T5s).

for LPS I like T5s (and use them on my LPS tank), for SPS - halide. it's all a matter of opinion!

on a side note, it seems that halides make LPS look fuller.

i dont want mh since they use a lot of electricity

12 lamps x 39watts comes to 468. At this point looking at mh is not bad. Maybe led is the way to go for less power consumption. The nice plus side to t5 is all the color combinations and the fact that you don't need to run all bulbs fulltime. But once you light a tank with good mh lamps its hard to switch to anything else.

I'd think about going with a DIY LED setup. I know that's what I will be doing the next time I get new lights.

Par 38's may not be very cost effective up front for your size tank. I think eastamhearstbias has some par38's over a frag tank he may be able to add some insight. I can say that somewhere on RC I read a thread on choosing how many leds for x- amount of gallons for which array of corals, my 120 came to like 78 leds for the full range and I decided to go with 84 to have a little extra power and I can always dim them a bit. I will try to find that thread for you. I will be starting the official build thread probably within a week.;)

Here I hope,If not can you shoot a link out when you get ready to do your build,Id be real interested in following along.

Ive been saving for months and trying to learn everything I can about led.Threads are so long my eyes start glazing over.

I hear that. The hardest part is deciding what you need.

It will most likely be in the DIY to attract the help of a few veterans I have been talking too, But I will def post a link here, and probably try to keep it updated for everyone here.
