125g: Help me choose my first tangs ever

I'd rule out the chevron. They lose those awesome juvenile colors as they mature and get quite large. Now that you say that your 125 is a 4 footer, I'd reconsider a tang.

Mines a 6 footer and the Tomini flys from one end to the other in no time.

I've never had tangs in anything less than a 6ft tank.

Hmm...that's disappointing to hear...

Would the One Spot Foxface do ok in a 4ft tank then? Does it have the same algae eating power a tang would? LiveAquaria says they require a 70gal tank at minimum.

You could put a yellow tang and a yellow eye kole in the 125 gallon likely without any problems...adding a 3rd tang is risky and 4th is of course more risky...I would not go over 4 tangs and likely 2 or 3 is best. Keep them well fed....check sizes of tangs do not get any of the ones that grow big... I would say get yellow and purple both but you are risking fights...although I have done it without issue...sometimes there are issues...as they both same body shape...I saw a tank today with purple and yellow in it zero issue.
125 gallon is ENOUGH for 2-3 smaller tangs....of course 6 feet better but with the 24 depth you will be ok....THATS MY OPINION and they will VARY. Tim.

there is more involved in keeping tangs then just tank size....you have to talk to them and love them...and feed them extremely good food quality and Nori no less then every second day..preferably EVERY day.

I sing to my tangs also.

You can ask for suggestion and recommendation on what fish to keep or not. However, everyone's tank is different and every fish is different. Suggestion a fish based on tank size is very very muddy. You can have a 300gallons with wall to wall to wall rocks or a 125 gallons with little rock. Which tank do you think the fish will be most compatible with?

I recommend skipping tangs and getting a pyramid butterflyfish. They are completely reef safe (not sure if you have a reef or not) and very cool fish. They aren't ich magnets like most fish. Heck, when I put mine into the tank straight from the store, it ate instantly lol. Great fish, and pretty too :)

I love tangs. Beautiful and trouble free fishes for me. Mine group settle down in my 320 for years at this time. They are disease free and fat.

Actually pretty cool fish I had never heard of or seen in any LFS here. Definitely gonna research it, thanks!

I have a one spot in my 210g. Had him in a 55g before this tank. I think he'd do fine in your 120g.

If it were me, I'd get a Magnificent Foxface instead of the One Spot. Your tank might be at the very minimum range, but I think they're a lot better looking fish.

Fair warning, my Foxface likes to take out zoa colonies. I've heard mixed results with them. Mine was a model citizen one day and then the next day he decided he liked $10 per head zoas and took out about $500 worth in a weekend.

I think a yellow tang in a 4,2,2 is ok if it has a lot of swimming space, my lfs had some lovely yellows which were a deep yellow colour and not washed out pale looking like some you see, but I think a great alternative is a Longnose butterfly

You will be fine putting a tang in that tank - kole, Tomini, yellow or purple. You should be ok with the yellow and a kole or Tomini, but your tank may be pretty crowded unless you have a lot of open swimming space and not too much rock. I would skip the Chevron (too big) and powder blue.
