125mph's 180G Miracle upgrade

Starting a new journey, today!!

Been keeping reefs for 7 years now. First tank was a 29 gallon nano tank, and quickly upgraded to a 60G cube within 2 months.. Quickly upgraded the 60G to a 120G 6 months thereafter .... and have hung onto the 120 for about 6 years.

Here's a shot of the 120G:

The tank is a LeeMar custom rimless 48"x24"x24" with 3/4" starphire glass and internal overflow. I custom built the stand using California walnut wood that I picked up a local Rockler store.

Shortly after setting up the 120g, I had mystery water quality issue. It actually coincided with when I started using BRS's RODI system instead of buying the water from the LFS. I never was able to resolve the water issue and that caused numerous failed coral additions, which discouraged me from really enjoying the hobby. I basically turned the tank into a fish and nem tank with some zoas.

Well, recently, I was able to properly diagnosis the issue and realized it was a chloramine problem. After resolving that, corals started to thrive and so did my interest into the hobby again!!

I just ordered a new custom 180G tank. It's rimless and dimensions are 72"x24"x24". It will be with 3/4" starphire glass and has a synergy 16" phantom overflow. I put the deposit as of today (2/14) and they estimate 7 weeks. It's from Miracles in Canada!

Here's the diagram of the plans:

Still working on it, but probably for now will be transferring over everything as is -- see my sig for existing equip. Dome minor changes though.

The tank and stand, more rock/sand/plumbing and some new fish additions is going to empty the wallet!

I will need to add more hydra 52s too.. looking into a higher skimmer, maybe the vertex 200i!

More to come ;$

Just built a transition stand. I'm planning to use this stand to move the 180 into the right location and to assist with putting the new tank on the real stand. I put some heavy duty casters rated at 240lbs per caster.

Wondering if I should add 2 more casters in the middle to even the load on that long 2x4.

Personally I would especially for getting over any bumps and cracks on the floor. The tank is not going to bow downward, but you want it supported. If you already have them I would use them.

Picked up a chaeto reactor today for the new build... here's what it will look like (from lfs):

If you haven't, add another pair in the middle like others suggested. I'll be doing something similar with my 240. Either that or I will rent a computer server hoist/forklift unit. If I go the route of a temporary stand I was going to use casters on the corners and middle since the tank is about 400 lbs empty.

Yep I added the middle casters.

Tank stand just arrived. Looks pretty good. Color hard to tell from the dark garage ;)

Finally arrived. First impression is the seams are much better than my current LeeMar tank.. will have to take closer look with better lights.
