127G Rimless Build

I'd definitely dose 2part over having a kalk and calcium reactor.

I used kalk and a calcium reactor for years and i much prefer 2part. First of all, it's much cheaper to start. Secondly, it's much easier to fine tune. Dealing with the bubble count and water flow on a calcium reactor can be a bit of a crapshoot. With 2part, there's no guessing. My numbers stay exact every time I check my water.

Making 2part is incredibly easy and if you get the 3 gallon jugs, you rarely have to refill them. IMO it's much easier than taking apart a kalk or calcium reactor to refill. If you had a 300+ gallon aquarium, i'd say go with a calcium reactor. But since you have a reasonable sized tank, definitely go 2part.

Lastly, it's an interesting choice that you added a yellow tang first. I wonder if he'll be aggressive to other fish mates. My yellow tang is pretty territorial. Once established, I'm curious if he'll be a bit rough on any new fish you add. At the very least, I hope you don't plan on adding another tang, because it will probably turn into WWIII. Best of luck.

I agree about the tang, it was an impulse buy since I've had good luck with them being hardy and wanted a hardier fish to start, but, like you said they are territorial. Hopefully when I add my next bunch of fish, he won't rip them apart. I plan to add 3/4 Bartlett's or Pyramid Butterfly's, a mystery or Richmond wrasse, was hoping on a Powder Blue also, but, we'll see.

I actually just placed an order for some B-Ionic, so 2-part it is, for now anyway. I will make it myself after this first batch is gone. I got 64oz for $15;not too bad.

Good luck with the B-Ionic. I've never used it, but heard great things about it. Once you get it dialed in, check out the Bulk Reef Supply dosers. You can automate them to do your daily dosing. They are super handy and well worth the investment.

We have pretty similar taste in fish. I hate to say it, but you might want to pass on the Bartlett's. I bought 5, and every one of them jumped out within 3 weeks. Sadly they don't do well in rimless.

So, I came home from work yesterday and as I opened the garage door, I heard that "pump running in no water" noise. Last thing you want to hear after working late. Turns out, for some readon my skimmer decided to overflow. Although it is an in-sump skimmer, it still shoots all over the place. Luckily, it was mostlycontained in my stand because the guy who made my stand used marine varnish/bar top to seal it inside if this ever happened.

I have no idea why this happened... The only thing I did differently was to take off my filter socks to give them a quick wash. Maybe the extra turbulence/air bubbles in the skimmer section made it go nuts. Any ideas?

I have stopped dosing the MB7 for a few days now to try and stop the advancement of the cotton candy looking algae. It is still in the same spot, but didnt go away when I lowered the dosage, so, I'll stop it for a few days. Once it goes away, I will contiue to add it again.

Are you able to adjust those hanging bars so you can start that 10 bulb pm higher up? I'd start the pm about 12-14 inches from the waterline then move down from there. I ended up bleaching alot of stuff before realizing how powerful it is.

Hey Guys.

Chris: I will try and post some pics later on, a bunch has changed, but, still not happy with everything(not sure if that will ever happen). I just started Zeo on Monday. Hopefully it works out, time will tell.

Jeff:I actually got rid of that hanging kit because of the reason you mentioned. I bleached/killed a few frags. I am now hanging it from the ceiling which, IMO looks a lot better/cleaner looking and doesn't bleach everything. Wish I had went with the 8 bulb, honestly...

Thedlo:Thanks. Yea, Occasionally, some water splashes over the front, but, it is very rare. I keep saying I want to drop the water level a bit, but, never get to it, if it was that much of a problem I would have gotten to it.
