12g Aquapod, Pics after 3 months!

Well, I made it past the first crazy months of my nano. I have gone through diatoms, a black and white clownfish that was getting beat up by the meanest Ocellaris I ever saw, and through about 12 different aquascapes. I figure I will give you guys a chance to see!

I have settled on a 2.5 gallon water change on sundays of every week. I use Kent salt and RO/DI water. I use C-Balance twice a week.
My lighting is 2x 27 watt (stock aquapod)
I have about 20# Live rock from various places.
Bach chambers I have 2 lb of live rock rubble, one chemipure packet, and the standard sponge.
I am going to switch to a MJ 900 soon, but I havent had too much problem with my temperature. It sits around 80-82 and I dont see that as TOO much of a problem.

Limonea (some sort of soft coral) (chuck, is this right??)

TONS of Green star pylops given to me, hey they are pretty!
as of right now, 7 types of Zoanthids
Yellow pylops
5 Headed Torch coral (was 3 headed when i got it!!)


So, does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Very nice,

I like the aquascaping, it leaves you lots of options. I am always changing my aquascaping around as well. I think my arm is in the tanks more than some fish :)

Are those manjeno (sp) anemones on the rock with the zoas?
 
what kind of calcium dosing do you use?--ive got the same setup nd its nice to see someone have success without halides or modded lights. How do you get the coraline in your tank so fast and what are you feeding the corals?

I dont believe those are manjeno anemone's The only thing on there is some different zoas and yellow pylops...

I am dosing calcium with C-Balance. It is a two part addition, one is for buffer, one is for calcium.
It is recommended a capfull for 20 gallons, (therefore about 1/2 capful for my 12) and i follow that for the alkalinity, however i do a full capfull of the calcium suppliment three times a week.

By the way, the coraline you see is from the live rock i got from my LFS. I have some, but not much coraline growth so far.

Do you have any pics of your setup??

actually, i think it wont be a problem with where it's placed...however they are doing WELL

i dont have any pics right now-mainly because its pretty empty. I guess i have around 15 lbs of live rock in the tank right now, and not much coraline growth so far-there wasn't any groth whe i bought the rock, but then again i havn't been using calcium. Now that ive seen your tank though i think i will order some stuff--i really like the torch and those gsp's, i just didn't know if i had enough light. And yeh--i really wish the pods would have been made with remote ballasts, it would have kept temps lower and would've left room for a couple more 27w pc's.
Thanks for the help and as soon as i get my corals i will post some pics. One more thing--check out aquabuys.com They have some 28w replacement bulbs for the pod. They are true 10000k bulbs (instead of the 6500/1000k that the pods come with. I hear they are alot bluer and whiter ad give off less yellow light, wich would be great for those softies.
 
hey scubasteeve, (Damn you scuba steve!! haha great movie) Ive been using this additive called "purple up" which costs about $15 for 18 or so Oz. The stuff works pretty great. I add about a half cap full a week, and only after 3 weeks, the coraline has really been spreading to parts where there was none before! Check it out... i love the stuff. Oh, and it adds iodine, so my xenia are happy too. :D
 
Awsome tank. I just set up my 12g aqua pod. You said that you move the rocks around a lot inside? I think I need more rock, I have about 15lbs. Did you glue any of it, and is it sitting against the back wall??

What exactly are you unsing in your filter chambers, how much live rock rubble?

You have 1 fish in there.

Any suggestios for me? I have 1 snail, 2 crabs, and a GSP that was given to me with the rock from an established tank.


An help wold be appreciated.

15 pounds is good to start with, i would just pick up a peice or two each time i go to my LFS. My problem now is i dont have much choice of things to do when a coral comes in thats on a rock, I got no more room!!

Here's my secret for the back chambers. I cut a peice of lexan plexiglass to cover up 1/2 of the bottom and middle overflow grates. This generates a good bit more flow in the top overflow part, benefiting surface exchange of oxygen. I did not neet to glue it, or mount it, i just simply slid it between the sponge in the first chamber and the backside of the plate that has the grates in it. I saw a LOT more sucess with it.

the next chamber over i have a 1/2 dose of chemipure...thats it. Sometimes if i get a peice of rubble i like but dont have something to glue to it yet, ill stick it there for a few days. The thirs chamber, i have about 2 pounds of rubble peices. I just got the junk at the bottom of the tanks at the LFS. Peices about the size of a grape, and a good bit of them.

Now, the fourth chamber is interesting. There is not TOO much water exchange in that chamber above the pump, yet it DOES happen. I like that the water in there is replaced very slowly, so whenever i dose, i just pour my addatives in here, to introduce them extremely slowly.
