12g Nano Cube Lighting Issue

Hi all,

I currently have a 12g JBJ Nano Cube with the stock CF lighting. I came home from work and none of the lights were on and figured it was an issue with the timer (cheap Home Depot analog style) but when I plugged it directly into an outlet the lights still did not come on. The bulbs are about 8 months old so I don't think they are the issue.

I'm not too savvy with any electrical knowledge, and am not sure what to do next to diagnose the issue. I would prefer not to replace the entire hood as this is a temporary tank to keep my itch for the hobby scratched (I've moved twice this year and will again next October....) until I am somewhere permanent and can upgrade. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If it isn't the bulbs, I would look at the ballast next. Only way to know is get some new bulbs and try them.

Before all of that though I would take the current bulbs out and re-seat them just to make sure one did come a little loose.

It could be that outlet in particular. Try plugging something else into it and see if it works.
Most likely not the issue, but worth checking.

I'll give it a try and re-seat them, hopefully that's the issue. If not what do i need to look for in the ballast?

I should have specified, I have my lights/pump/heater all on the same power strip and everything else is running so that isn't the issue. I appreciate the suggestion though!

I've had specific outlets on a power strip go bad so you could try switching it's position on the strip. It happened on my computer power strip oddly enough.
