12x6x4 ft... what would you do?

So I have a chance to buy a 2200 gallon tank for under $2000 - if I can move it.

It has three 4x4 windows on 1 side for a 12x4 viewing area. Steel framed with 1" thick windows. Some scratching, but I have access to a flame polisher and a good acrylic sanding kit...

I could knock out the wall between my living room and garage and use 1/2 my garage to house this tank.

Go fish only... or add another 200 amps to my breaker box to handle the ungodly amount of light needed to make it a reef?

...Or just revert back to some killer central american monster cichlids and a simple (and cheap) freshwater.

...Or sick it outside on the back patio and put some killer Koi in there.

I tried my damndest to talk my wife into letting me buy that and turning into a FO. But since I'm already using half of the garage for the 375 she would not budge and give me the other half....

I would say with your mastery of Montis go with a reef and a frag of superman monti..

Hey Joe-

Ha ha.. my Superman frag is about a whopping 1" square.

But I'd love to see my monster pink and green caps get to be a square yard!

Jason told me the tank was for sale last weekend. It's all I can do to keep myself from buying it and just put it in storage until I build a new house (someday)...

I can't wait to see the massive 12'X40' shark tank he wants to build!

sounds like an awsome tank, if you have the space and is not gonna cause you a divorce then go for it.

defently reef it but maby you can use solortubes in the summer and help with some of the electric but could u imagine that as a reef =)

whats the maximum amount of money you are going to spend?

For a tank that size, I think money is no longer an issue.

If it has windows you could put partitions b/w each viewing window. FO on one side. Reef on the other. That would be cool.

What would I do?

I'd probably start with a second mortgage and flood insurance on my house.

Man thats a big tank. Honestly, Myself, I'd be afraid to tackle something that big. It could get crazy. Maintenance, electric, water changes and all... humidity. It would be sweet to pull that off though.

If you do it... I'd love to come see it. :)
Maybe you can charge an entry fee to help pay the electric man.

Well since you already have a huge reef already I think you
should turn it into a small lake tanganyika.
Take the money that you would have spent on setting it up as a reef and upgrade your BMW to a 7 series BMW.

Use it as a sump for your 10,000 gallon tank.

It would make a nice reef tank but I can't imagine the cost associated. I would make it a FO with a few softies here and there. That thing could hold almost any fish you'd ever want.

Ha ha... my 10,000 gallon tank = flooded basement!!

I think I've talked myself out of the 2400... unless I buy it and store it. But FWIW I'd probably do a sweet arse Tanganyikan tank. Reef or even FO at that sise is just waaaay too expensive for my taste. I could buy a nice boat and go SCUBA diving in the carribean for that cost...
