13 month old SPS dominated Mixed reef.

Beautiful tank! May I ask why you decided to go from the ca. reactor to two part. I thought about going back to two part on my 125. Just wondering if you had a specific reason for the move. Thanks.

The main reason why I went to 2 part is one the reactor I had was undersized for my tank, and secondly I wanted to try something different.

The reactor was able to keep up the first 6 months, but then it quickly became in adequate, and I had to manually dose to bring alk levels up. I then started driving the cal reactor too hard, which then drove my ph down too much, I did not like my ph sitting below 8.00 most of the time. I was either going to get a new bigger reactor or try 2 part dosing...

Once I switced to 2 parts, it was very easy to adjust dosing levels. I have profilux doser that doses 24 times a day, and I can specify exactly how many ml to dose each time. It is very precise unlike cal reactor. So Far I have been very happy with this method, and my PH now ranges from 8.15 to 8.35.

cagri, well done! Your tank is very nice.

Have you seen and increase in growth with 2 part vs the Ca reactor?

Yes I think I have noticed a slight increase in growth with automated 2 part but that may also be due to my cal reactor being undersized and I was barely able to keep alk at 70 - 7.5, now I can keep it at 8.5 solid.

Do you quaritine? If so what did you do?

Unfortunately I do not quarantee, I do dip all my corals for extended periods of time in Tropic Marine Pro Coral dip, and examine them very closely for all bugs. This is definately something I am thinking about doing in the future, but so far I do not have any pests, and I do look for them every day.

Also for people that are wondering,

My Parameters:

Alk 8.5
Cal 400
Mg 1350
NO3 0.5 (Salifert)
PO4 .03 or less but this is acording to Salifert.

Biggest challange is to keep NO3 from droping to 0, I try to maintain a bit of NO3 to help with coral growth and color, but I need to feed a ton to even register a little bit a reading. I have 30+ fish including 7 tangs.
