Thanks for the updates, I wanted to see how the low profile overflow box was being plumbed. I hope that you don't have any issues with the silicone holding the overflow box in place but I did see a similar overflow that had an additional back piece that was supporting the weight of the overflow box by the bulkheads as well. Thought I would share. I am wanting to upgrade to a larger tank myself so I am like a crack addict looking at all the tank builds so I can see different ways of doing things.

It's been a while since I've been able to work on my build. I've been busy with starting a new job and other things. I did get some more work done this weekend and tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to get more going within the next few weeks as well.

Nice skills with the woodworking, and tank plumbing. Looks like it's going to be a very nice setup. JP

Thank you
Nice job, when you getting some rock and live stock in?

I have all the rock sitting in the garage right now. I'll probably put it in just before I put lighting set up in the canopy. That seems like it's going to be a pain with all the wiring for the T5s. Still debating whether to do bare bottom or put in sand.

I'm not a huge fan of bare bottoms myself, I have a 1.5-2in sand bed with a dune hill on one side where it piled up after moving lol seems pretty cool

I agree @Nibrown9 - Sometimes the cool sand dunes, etc. is what make a tank look so cool. :) I've seen some pretty rocking barebottom's tho...just a sand man myself. :P

Heres the lighting board that will be suspended inside the canopy. I'll have it on cables and pulleys to raise and lower it for maintenance and to get more or less lighting intensity on the corals.

This is a rough layout of how the lights will be mounted.

Did you use a center brace on the front of your stand or does the 2×8 provide enough support to bypass the brace? I'm in the process of drawing up plans for a similar stand and would like uninhibited access to the sump.

The 2x8 supports it enough in my experience with this stand. I did it for the exact same reason you stated. Plenty of room to move around in there.

That's reassuring enough for me. Thanks. Your stand looks great by the way. Looking forward to seeing your build progress.

I have done tanks with a DSB, SSB and BB and my fav is a bare bottom. It took me a little while to take get used to the look, but they are easier to take care of, you can use a lot more flow in them and my skimmer produces more skim mate since the crap doesn't settle in the sand bed.

If I ever did an SPS tank I would only do it BB

Well I've had it running for the past week with live rock and no sand bed. It kinda is wearing on me and I may just leave it. I did wanna do a sand bed but does seem easier to clean and maintain. Although I do like snails and blennys.

Got a few friends from AA the other day. This weekend hopefully I will be finishing the canopy.

This is a snail that I got from Jerms01 when I grabbed some sand and chaeto for my sump.
