14 gallon bio cube micro bubble issue

I have a 14 gallon biocube using the factory filtration (filter cartridge, pad, bioballs, sponge). I have an issue with micro bubbles and not sure why. It's like they are getting through the trap and sponge. Anyone else ever had this issue?

Ive had the issue and i still have it, raising the water level decreases it, but my best guess is that they make the filters that way so that it airates the water, well at least mine i dont know how small your bubbles are. Good luck.

Water level is at or above the recommended water line on side of the tank. Filtration is unchanged. It's what is in the back of the biocube. Pump is the coralife pump. Checked the tube going from the pump to the discharge and it has no cracks or ways for air to get in.

That's definitely not normal... Some air is getting in the return pump somehow. Do you have a sponge up next to the return pump or anything?

There is a sponge in the bubble trap just before the pump. It was there when I got the tank.

Just troubleshooting here... Try removing that sponge and replacing it with a piece of filter floss and see what that does...

I have the BC 29, and I too had alot of micro-bubbles at first. In my case, I figured the bubbles was caused by turbulent water falling from chamber 1 into chamber 2. I now keep the water level higher than the recommended line (so the falling water is falling a shorter distance), and I made a media rack out of egg crate for chamber #2 and placed it tight against the wall between chamber #2 and #1. On top of the media rack I placed a coarse filter sponge and some filter floss on top. Now no micro-bubbles, and much less noise as well.

For clarification, I placed the sponge and filter floss on top of the rack, and oriented it so the water falling out of chamber 1 just simply spills over to the filter floss, and the water trickles down instead of falling and splashing.
