which do you think would be the best choice for 70g sps tank with no supplements?

Iam leaning toward the CV but I have heard lots people having problems with these bulbs not firing. Tell me what you think?

Thanks in advance,

A.G

coralvue all the way. Like I have said time and time again they give the best growth and the best color. You can take a look at my gallery and see for your self.

acropora nut,

Nice looking tank and great color. Are you using the 12K CoralVue? After doing a lot of reading I ordered a 12K Coralvue for a new 60 gallon cube I'm setting up and was trying to decide if I would need any actinic bulbs to supplement it.

12 K CV Reeflux...I'm using it on my tank and loves it. I have 2 different brands of electronic ballasts and they all burn well. I think the report you heard are from the original/old bulbs. I haven't heard any problem with burn in from the new Reeflux bulbs.

I love the 12k reeflux (250w), got two over my 100g, and don't need supplimenting at all, granted I would like some room for actinics simply to have some "after hours" lighting, unfortunately lumenarc sized reflectors don't exactly give you room to do anything when the tank is only 18" wide!

acropora nut,

I checked your gallery. Tank looks great! How many 12K Reeflux are you using. I was thinking about the 20K XM's but may decide to do the 12K Reeflux instead.

Do the 12K's have a nice blue tint to them? My 550 is also 10ft long 36 wide and 29 tall. I also use 4 400 mh and 1 250mh in the middle for LPS. all on LA III reflectors. Currently using the 10K Reeflux and 14K EVS bulbs. I just bought the 10K reeflux so need to replace my 14K's. No room for VHO with those huge reflectors.

Anybody have the PAR #'s of the CVreeflux 12k vs. the CVreeflux 10k? I currently run the 10k's and have been very happy but I might want to try the 12k's if the PAR hit isn't too significant. BTW I run IC e-ballasts. I've looked at Sanjays site and he doesn't have the 12k's up yet. TIA ;)

Well Sanjay's site doesn't have specifically the "Reeflux" bulb, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Coravue 12000k bulb isn't similar in par. and for an IceCap (atleast in the 250w range), you're looking at a ppfd of 86 & 56 respectively for 10000k (reeflux brand) & 12000k (non-reeflux brand)... wow that sucks.

Oh well, as mentioned light is only part of the equation, I think the color for the 12000k is just so nice that I wouldn't want to try to go for more par with the 10000k bulbs.

acropora nut... no can do, I only run two :)

The Reeflux 10k was so substantially higher in PAR compared to the old CV 10k it's really the only reason I considered CV's at all.[86 to 66] especially considering their lackluster rep with the old bulbs. Based on that, I'd be surprised if the Reeflux 12k isn't significantly higher in PAR compared to the old CV 12k's as well. We just need somebody to give us the PAR # !

Thanks acropora nut...sweet tank by the way.

would you recommend running this bulb with HQI ballast? or should I order an electrnic ballast?

I would only run them on electronic ballast. You will drive the bulb to hard w/ the HQI ballest. There will be a shorter life span on the bulb plus you won't get the true color.
