140G Stocklist help

HI everyone I'm upgrading my 75G in the next week to a 140G custom. 52x26x23. My stock list as of now is 2 clowns, yellow tang, flame angel, sand goby, and mandarin dragonet. The fish I am considering are a pair of anthias, mystery wrasse, and some tangs (purple, powder blue, naso). Is this overstocked. Should I cut back on a tang?
Thanks

Sounds like a beautiful tank. I would go with a single bristletooth tang in that tank. Though I'd rather have a Genicanthus spp. angel. I think a harem of anthias would be better than a pair aesthetically. Mystery wrasses can be a bit pugnacious and will limit your other choices to some degree though they are beautiful. Why not a more peaceful wrasse so you could have more; flashers, leopards, canary, possum. But mysteries are really neat if you just want one spunky wrasse (Full disclosure: I've never kept one.) Definitely no Naso spp. And I'd stay away from those other tangs too.

Good luck!

This is good for the tangs. Love the dimensions btw.

I wouldnt add any of those tangs to the new tank, the purple would be the only one but its unlikley your existing yellow would get along. I would also skip the mystery and add a couple of fairy wrasses and anthias as mentioned above.

What's the reasoning behind not adding any of the listed tangs? Tank size?
I'm really leaning towards a blonde naso and purple. Im hoping the purple and yellow will be ok as they will both be going in a new tank so hopefully not so territorial.

Yes, tank size. Check snorvich's sticky for tank sizes for tangs. They like to swim, swim, swim and then swim some more.

Charley, can you contextualize your comment? It seems unwise on the surface. Especially the Naso. You should be more mindful. Someone may actually take your advice.

If he reads that thread and actually follows it he won't get the "(purple, powder blue, naso)" that he mentioned.

So why don't you get off me... Your not the king of the forest.

I think he just misunderstood your post of "this is good for the tangs" as meaning the OP's tank would be good for those tangs :)

Nor do I pretend to be. Nor do I want to be. Your advice was patently wrong and you should be less cavalier in the future. This is a chance for you to learn. You should take it instead of whining. I've taken my share of lumps on this board.

Peace, paul

Whatever I just wish people on these forums weren't such douche's about sharing wisdom. Its honestly really ironic... "Hey I'm gonna give you some great advice, but at the same time I'm gonna make you feel like a complete worthless idiot!"

...

Sincerely,

Charley

Hey, Charley. Look, I'm picking on you because the kind of post you wrote is the exact kind of non-thinking that most people on Reef Central try to work against. It's a kind of thinking that seeks to justify what you want to be true, rather than looking at the facts of the matter. And if that's the way you want to approach reef keeping, I would say that is your right, but, in fact, these are living creatures that we have taken from their homes and they deserve the utmost consideration in their care. So, I'm trying to give you a little Zen tap on the forehead and wake you to the next level of conscious reef keeping. And I do it on behalf of the animals you may keep and those who may read your words. What if your response was the only one and the OP was very new to the hobby. They might go ahead and put all those fish in their tank. And it could work, I guess, possibly, but no. It would not work out. So that's where I'm coming from. I wish you no personal ill will.

Peace, paul

What Peter said. "please express yourself in a way that is conducive to further constructive dialog" is the imperative.

For the record, the issue is largely tank length, not just gallons, and that may be the source of the confusion. Those gallon requirements also have length requirements.

Just for the record, he didn't give any advice, so I'm not sure what he could be wrong about. He simply linked him to the tang primer. You jumped on him for no reason.

Hi Bob. Well, I interpreted "this is good for the tangs" as an approval of the stocking of the species listed. Charley did link to a source which is appreciated. He was welcome to defend his advice but he could not do so and I think that confirms my interpretation that the advice was ill-considered.

Hi Bob. Well, I interpreted "this is good for the tangs" as an approval of the stocking of the species listed.

Why would you do that? He posted a link to a complete breakdown on tang advice and said "this is good for the tangs".

He was welcome to defend his advice but he could not do so and I think that confirms my interpretation that the advice was ill-considered.

He did, and once again you chose to just have it go right over your head.

If he reads that thread and actually follows it he won't get the "(purple, powder blue, naso)" that he mentioned.

Anyway, didn't mean to :deadhorse:, carry on.
