$15 Dollar Nano tank

Maybe I am injecting too much, but when I inject it into the aiptasia they close up and some squirts out.

When aptasia X kills the aptasia they implode, which often causes a little "squirt" of the excess product into the tank.

I've never had any free-float, as any excess usually sinks quickly, so that I can't explain.

I had two aptasia pop up in my 14g bio I use for quarantine. I bought two peppermint shrimp from discount Aquarium and a week later the aptasia were gone. Unless the serpent star ate them. LOL

I use pickling lime mixed with water to kill of Aptasia. I use a syringe to inject solution. You don't have to get the Aptasia to eat it. I will also smother the Aptasia with it. I was able to get a syringe from my vet. If they retract into a hole I just fill the hole with the solution. Watching them implode does provide some satisfaction. Lol.

Pistol Shrimp are not harmful and will not pose any threat in the tank, with the possible exception of smaller shrimp. Unless you have a monster of a pistol, I doubt you will have a problem. Peppermints aren't that expensive, I'd throw a few in there and see what you get.

Okay great. Thank you everyone for your input I will be going by the LFS to grab some today! Any thoughts on the coralline algae? It is a real eye sore.

I'm interested in the mixture using pickling lime. First, where do you buy it? Second, what is the ratio of lime to water?

I purchase the pickling lime online. I use it to make limewater (Kallawaser) for my ATO water. I got 6lbs for $24 at Walmart.

The product I get is Ms. Wages Pickling Lime. Places like Walmart and Fry's use to carry it in the stores, but I haven't seen it there lately. It is used to make oickles so there might be a local store near you that carries it. If you can't find it let me know I will be at the Frag-O-Ween meeting this Saturday. I can bring you some.

I found a recipe for it online, but basically I use 2 tablespoons and mix in enough DI water to make a slurry. I was able to get a syringe with a metal tip from my vet. I stab the Aptasia and inject it with the slurry. The slurry needs to be thin enough to squirt out the small hole in the syringe. I store the unused slurry in a plastic container in a cabinet and use it as needed. I only use a small amount in the syringe and discard what I don't use.

Most Walmarts carry the smaller bag of Mrs. Wages Pickling lime in the canning section of the kitchen supplies. I use it for my kalk water in my top off.

At the local walmarts and Fry's near cave creek I was not finding the pickling lime (calcium hydroxide). You also have to be careful a lot of the Ms Wages bags look the same. I was finding a quicklime from Ms Wages which is calcium oxide. It can be used to make limewater, but the bottle is small so it wasn't going to work for me. You just need to be careful with calcium oxide, when mixed with water it can generate a lot of heat.

Anyone near 51st ave and baseline have RODI water?

Also, here is a little update. Got some green star polps.

They are still getting used to the tank but I like them.

Well I upgraded to a 34 gallon cube. I'm selling this tank with live rock and live sand. As well as a few mushrooms and blue yellow stripes damsel. It needs new bulbs and runs fine besides that. Let me know if you guys are interested

Selling this tank. Live rock, live sand, pistol shrimp. Might throw in a four head Duncan coral. Needs new lights.
