$15 dollar stylo

I just went to the lfs. to pick up my first frags today and I saw an green stylo frag... now my tank has been up for almost two months and parameters are in check... I was planning on keeping some spa in the tank so the lighting and flow are adequate in designated spots... now I was planning to put some other hardier corals in beforehand but it was an almost 2" frag on sale for 15 and I couldn't pass it up! I am a new hobbyist and this is my first tank so any tips specific to keeping this coral would be greatly appreciated
also the polyps are already starting to extend within an hour of being put in the tank! which is a good sign right? thanks,

Yep! That's a great sign.

Stylo's, and birdsnests are the easiest, and fastest growing SPS IMHO. This is followed closely by Montis, and acros tend to be harder and slower growing.

Keep things stable and it should do well for you. If it starts getting pale give it less light.

As Whiskey said it sounds like everything is going well. Be aware that stylo's can and frequently do put out sweeper tentacles up to 3/4" long. Anything down current within that range might get zapped in the middle of the night as they have very potent stingers. All my acros are crowded at the base by annoying polyps but the stylo has a ring of death around it where no polyp dares set foot......

It needs no more flow than you would give most LPS so don't think you need to balst it because it's SPS. Hope it does well for you mate

Also added word of flow, when people are new to sps they blast it with flow. They like flow but you can also strip the flesh so be careful with that

I'm running a very turbulent flow, I have 2 850 gph powerheads on constantly and one 600 gph turning on and off every 8 hours, I'm going to order some of those jebao wave makers... should I get one that is rated like 800-2000 or 2 rated 530-1000 they both can adjust to different modes, I could only afford one vortech but then the budget would be really depleted... which route should I go?

almost every polyp is extending about 3-4 mm off the coral. only the tips are green though not so much the base or anything else... but it has more color than when I put it in the tank.

Sorry should have been more specific, heavy flow directly at the coral can strip flesh.

Wave makers are great as can make more turbulent surging flow, which is more of what you want. It really depends on the size tank you have. You want to create flow that eliminates dead spots and gives coral indirect flow having multiple equipment to do this is best as you can create a more dynamic flow. Also still a more random flow which is why wave makers and their timing is good. As a general rule 30-50 times the flow of your tank volume if you are having sps dominant. I have around 30 times flow in my current mixed tank and is doing well. Example if your tank is 100g and you have wave maker rated to 500g you have 5x your tank volume. Don't forget to factor in your return pump flow aswell. Also finally some surface agitation is good for oxygenation of water
